FYI, Alias|Wavefront are to release an edition of Maya free of charge for students and young professionals looking to explore the software. (Thanks to Eni Oken for the email link)

I signed up! You can work with the full, Unlimited version. Only watermarks and no plug-ins.
This is a really good idea, considering all the warezed versions out already.
Wonder if any other companies are gonna follow through. |

Now that you can actually have the choice, Which would be best to get a jump start on learning? Maya or 3dsmax? Decisions Decisions.... =D

It'll be available for Windows and Mac OSX.
Student prices are steep. > than a thousand bills, I believe. |

they already sent me a demo cd which had a time limited demo.. but I didnt want to intall it... :P

I was definitely impressed by Alias|Wavefront's decision to license Maya to students... as far as purchasing Maya goes though, its $495 with an educational discount. Could be worse.

I think it's a great idea. I've wanted to play with Maya ever since I saw it at school. But I don't like warez, so I thought I'd never get to have fun with it. Looks like I'll get a chance to!  |

It isn't the Unlimited Version, the unlimited, I believe has Fur, Subdivision, and Cloth... Those are plug-ins. |
