Ok.. here is an indian type girl I made. Its original (no copying) and practically no references were used.

I will add more details in the hair and work more on the shading.

I'm interested in crits (esp on the anatomy angle of features, nose, etc) and comments.

It's looking nice, although I'm not sure if it belongs here or in the work in progress forum.

I'm assuming she's a native american rather than from India, so I believe her nose should have more of a pointed-down-arch rather than a slighlty upturned one. Also, I think native americans' jaw/chin are generally positioned more forward than how your picture shows. I'm no anthropologist(?) so I may be wrong.

I think it's looking well though, sharpen it up and you got yourself a keeper.

I think you should use higher saturated colors in the face. right now it has the same grayness as the background and it looks dull instead of moody. Also, I think you should move or remove the feather, it is not very good for the composition where it is placed now.

i agree with the things that the other guys said here, but she looks more oriental to me than indian or aboriginal.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that she has a unique look (maybe shes part asian part indian).

The feather is something I'm not sure about. I placed it there to use some space on the left side of the canvas and then made the background. It helps to push the background back some but the borders are distracing. I'll see if I can find a better place for it.

On the saturation.. I was going for a monochromatic feel but it does seem to make the shading look weak in places.

I'll try to improve some things on it before I lose too much interest.
