nice image! the hair looks great. the pants could also use more work.

cool lighting. Has a real feel about it, the pants give it away though.

I hate chicks with beards, did you guys see that Windowlicker video from Aphex Twin?
Didn't want to offend you in any way, though.

The rest is just awesome.

Might I add that, that is NOT a normal danish female attribute. I assure you.

Very nice work.

Is it really an exercise from photo, or just some brushstrokes and filterwork over one?

got to admit that the head turned up a bit rough, especially that light from the chin to the cheek.I finished it and uploaded it in the afternoon, when ambiant light was taking away all those contrasts-lesson learned, i'll double check before posting now.
wyattT:I like the pants that way, it's a study, not a finished work.
root88: nope, all done in painter(5)
thanks all

Splitsoul, what are Danish girls really like?
Are they all hot? (please say yes)

Beet, I really like the pic and it's interesting and helpful to look at studies like this. Thanks for posting up!

Hi beet, if you don't like me doing this, I will take it down. I do like the pants, and I really did very little (enough?)

Some minor changes, if the idea is bright light, there are some things that could help.

Photos give the impression of bright light through blowing out and overexposure. The skin, a much darker local value than the pants, are exposed correctly. The pants are gone. If you were sitting there, you would see the detail in the lit side of the pants, you would see detail everywhere. The eye has a much wider exposure latitude than film. So, when working from a photo keep this in mind.

One trick photographers use is bounce light. They have the dilemma of "what doe I expose correctly, the lit or shaded side?" So they use big reflectors to bounce light back into the shaded side of things so they can crank down the exposure and hopefully get both lit and shaded sides.

They needed one more reflector for the bottom of her face, or you can paint it in yourself. hard to do, unless you know how to paint the form in the first place.

hi spooge
no problem with the overpaint.
you got it right for the lighting of the face
and for the overexposed photo. we just did the shooting straight, no reflectors and etc
flat pure white on the pants : what you said, but I liked it that graphical way.
guess it's fine for a study, not really for a finished piece ...I got to study light theory a bit more, really. If you got a good book to recommend here for that.
and while asking, any good book about Sargent ? can't find any proper book about him here, I need to buy one online but really hate to buy art books without looking through.

This is very nice work. I really like the brush-work. Good balance between the very rough (Joachim, Rinaldo etc.) and the very polished (me.. ahem.. :P ) The pants are really well done. I do agree on the fact that the face looks a fair bit male. I think this strongly has to do with the light or lack of it in that area. It looks as if she's got stubble. Spooge's repaint certainly took care of this problem.
All in all.. good job Beet!

title DOESN'T say it all anymore really. more like a cold winter day in england, after a storm . photo was mine.
I though it wasn't enough to open a new threat so there it goes.
toast!: the site's chaos right now...should rearrange it this month, really

Those are all nice. Good tips from Spooge as usual. But with the manly face in the original, I thought it wa John Romero for a minute.

*whuuuh*, that's a bit like a cold shower.
