The week of Christmas last year I spent in Virginia with some in-laws. I was very far from my computer and video game systems. And there where none for miles where I was at, or at least it felt that way. There wasn't even pizza delivery. I was a whinny little citi-slicker who was used to 80-90 degree weather and stuck in 40 degree weather with 20mph winds off the ocean.
That made going out and taking pictures not so much fun. Being the idiot I am I din't bring gloves. Hard to take photos when you can't feel your fingers. So I borrowed some gloves. Hard to take pictures with gloves on. I just wanted to go home. There is no place like home.
But here are some pics anyway:
On the plane waiting to depart from PBIA
Here is a view from a lake just out the back yard of thier house. Just beyond the other side of the trees is the ocean. Probably about 100ft of land left on that barrier of land, and it is erroding quickly.
Some ducks flying in to land in the lake.
Here is a view from the other side of the lake where the beach is. The stumpy things in the water in the foreground where once trees but the beach is disapearing fast.
Salt water eventaully kills them off.
Some shore birds that root about the beach and stay just a few inches away from the water as the waves move in and out.

My wife finds a murder scene. hehehe Probably an eagle or hawk ate a bird here. There was a large amount of blood not too far from these remains (a wing and a leg, connected by a spine).
The murder suspect. No, just kidding. Just one of the very rare people shots I ever do.
Stupid pic I felt like sharing.
The sun was about to come out here but never really did. It was overcast and windy almost all the time when I was there.
A neat little boat house.
And a old abandoned house.

Gimbal - Those are some GORGEOUS shots! My jaw is on the floor over here. I cannot pick a favorite, nor can I muster up the words from my limited vocabulary to describe just how much I enjoyed looking at them. |

Very nice. It's hard to take great overcast pics, but you did it very well. |

Jezebel: Um, thanks. But come on now, how exactly can your jaw hit the floor over these when most all of your pics are better then these?
Lunatique: I wish I could take credit for that, but taking my hands out of my jacket pocket to mess with camera settings isn't something I was intersted in doing at the time. I have to give credit to my camera for dealing with the overcast situation for me. All of these are straight from the camera with no post processing (except to resize).
Normally I would at least run a little unsharp mask filter or nudge a color using curves depending on how the camera dealt with the lighting but I'm too lazy.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that there were much more interesting things and places to take pictures of in Virginia, but sadly I didn't get the chance to take my camera with me all the time. Oh well.
Next I think I'll be posting some pictures of my work and a bike ride over to the beach back here in Florida. |

Gimbal8: I love the shot of the little boy in the tall grass. Awesome pic.
I think the "stupid" pic... would have been cooler if you had made teh mon in focus and the tree braches out of focus. |

Jezebel: Me? Accept a compliment? Never!!
Ouch, ok ok..stop hitting me already. I accept the compliment.
Awetopsy: I agree. I didn't bother adjusting the focus manually at the time to get the moon in there because my wussy self just wanted to get back into the house and sit by the heater. I've learned to keep my camera on spot focus these days to avoid such things. |
