I thought it SUCKED.

It wasn't so much the concept, which I liked, or it wasn't that the production value was bad (a slick film really). Nope. I was annoyed by the predictability of this film (uh oh - I know right off they're clones, and they'll end up running to find their "makers", and the seemingly bad guy will end up helping them in the end - yep - saw all that before it ever hit the fan), but what really annoyed me was that this movie was nothing more than a 2 hour commercial; I've never seen so many commercial plugs in one movie before. Let's see, we had Apple (which was funny, since the computers used in this "collective, THX1138 centric" scenario were Macs. Funny. Cult of the Mac. Hardy har har), Puma, Reebok (audio plug by actress), Pontiac GMC, Chevrolet, Cadillac (with audio plug by McGregor), Ben and Jerry's ice cream, MSN, American Express, Michelob Light (McGregor's character drinks from those fancy new space age aluminum "bottles"), and god only knows what I missed.

I've heard of supplementing production costs with advertising, but this was silly. Flat out silly.

Eh!

Man, you should've looked up some reviews or listened to the fact that it bombed. I watched it some time ago and I have to totally agree with you, it sucked huge hairy balls. I just sincerely hope that you didn't buy the dvd but just rented it.

I pretty much disliked everything about the movie. It's humor wasn't funny, the characters weren't interesting. The over the top action was ridiculous since the movie failed to not take itself seriously. Even the product placement is a failed concept in that movie, I mean why the hell would the survivors down there care if they wore puma(when everyone wears exactly the same stuff anyways) or if those game fights they do are sponsored by fucking xbox?

Really sad that money got wasted on producing this. But hey, Micheal Bay said it was all the fault of not having enough "real" stars to drag in the audience. I guess he never heard about how word of mouth can keep people from going to watch crap.

Buy? Oh no . . . rented and quite safely. I can't remember why I ignored the movie when it came out, so I rented it out of curiosity. The only thing that made it tolerable was the very tall glass of Chimay (now that rocked).

After seeing Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys 2 I don't even want to imagine how shitty that Island is.. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that maybe after a couple more of these horrible films, mr. Bay is out of biz. Neeext!! (Uwe Boll standing in line)

NeFF, now that you mention it, I liked the soundtrack too - probably the only thing I liked about the whole thing. I love motion picture soundtracks and have a good collection; I may add the Island to the library. Speaking of soundtracks, I recently picked up Mark Isham's score / soundtrack to "Crash"; if you like ambient influenced electronic music, it's very good, imo (but there's a "poppy" tune by Stereophonics which isn't bad)

What I didn't like about the soundtrack, altough it's not really a fault of itself like that, is that they were totally "inspired" by Gladiator. The movie ending in general. With even the same actor doing a kind of "now we (they) are free" scene.

You know what's funny, is it's a direct rip-off of a movie that MST3K did called "Parts: The Clonus Horror" . . . the guy who wrote the original has a lawsuit pending. I'm kind of rooting for him.
