Hello. My name is Melissa and I am a student of an art class at University of Texas at the Permian Basin and I was curious if any one would be kind enough to participate in a survey for me. Any help at all would be great! Thanks!

1. Who are you and where are you from? Did you go to school to learn how to make art?
2. What is your preferred technique or medium?
3. What process do you use in creating your art?
4. In your mind, what is art?
5. How long have you been making art? Who do you make art for?
6. In your opinion, what was the greatest period of Art History?
7. Do you attach yourself to any artistic movements such as Surrealism or Abstract Expressionism?
8. How do you feel society at large treats artists?
9. Who is your all time favorite artist?
10. What is your favorite museum? Why?
11. If possible could I use a photo of your work for my assignment?

Thank you again!

1. Eric, from Sacramento, CA. I went to school to refine my skills, but not necessarily to "learn" how to do it.

2. Digital, or pen and ink.

3. Process meaning thought process, or technical process? General process is:
a) Determining an idea or concept
b) Researching the idea
c) Doing preliminary thumbnail studies
d) Completing the piece in the chosen medium

4. Art is anything that transcends the medium in which it is created. Meaning, you can create art out of a bar of soap, a car, paint, or with a computer. All that matters is that there is an idea and execution of that idea.

5. All my life, but formally for the the last six years. I make art most often professionally for clients.

6. Greatest period is absolutely post-impressionism.

7. No. Possibly post-modernism if anything.

8. Society treats artists like craftsmen and tradesmen unless you're lucky enough to be a flavor-of-the-week decoration artist (example: Thomas Kincaid).

9. Impossible to answer, it changes with my mood. Ralph McQuarrie is up there, though.

10. MoMA. It's got just about everything relevant to today.

11. Yes, there is art on my blog here: <www.ericlutes.blogspot.com> Just please let me know what you plan on using (if anything).

These questions are really way broad, I don't see how the kinds of things you seem to want to learn here really can be addressed in a survey form. Also they won't get you very much more than just a scratch on the surface of whatever anyone thinks of "art" or whatever you want to call it. If you really want to get into deeper art philosophy, then in my opinion you're going to have to just have discussions with people and try to sort out the themes that come up on your own. You have made up a set of questions that are interesting to you, but for an artist it is the questions that are the most important, not necessarely the answers... That's why you need to let people speak freely for themselves.

1. Who are you and where are you from? Did you go to school to learn how to make art?
I'm Shizo, a bum from Skidrow. I didn't go to school. Temple University didn't accept me. Wankers.

2. What is your preferred technique or medium?
Pasting some photos together.

3. What process do you use in creating your art?
Pasting some photos together. Using Photoshop.

4. In your mind, what is art?
It's mostly illustration and design.

5. How long have you been making art? Who do you make art for?
It depends, if you mean real art then I've never made that.

6. In your opinion, what was the greatest period of Art History?
Since Craig Mullins learned to use the mouse.

7. Do you attach yourself to any artistic movements such as Surrealism or Abstract Expressionism?
No, I'm atheist.

8. How do you feel society at large treats artists?
First we hate them, then we hit them.

9. Who is your all time favorite artist?
Craig Mullins or that dude on these forums whos name begins with M.

10. What is your favorite museum? Why?
The Kremlin Armory. There are cool ancient weapons, thrones and carriages.

11. If possible could I use a photo of your work for my assignment?
Sure,

I'm going to sleep now. Goodnight.

Thank you so much for your help Shizo and Eric!

Eric, if you don't mind I would like to use the Ziggurat Palace as an example of your work for my paper. You do really good and interesting work, of course I've always loved looking at architecture.

Affected, I completely agree. I realized this after I read Eric's responses and realized I had more particular questions I wanted to ask him.

Again, thanks for all your help!

Hehe. If you really write in your paper "Shizo is a bum from Skidrow" I'm going to laugh really loud!
