Hello. My name is Abel Oroz, an art student/concept artist (still small freelance jobs) from Spain striving to improve and to make a living with my passion (like everyone else, I guess!).

Due to my current art studies, I'm still planting the seed of what I expect to be my real portfolio which I'll start to develop by the time I finish this last course by summer. Some pieces here might pass the quality test though.

I'm really striving for true, argumented criticism, no matter how hard, to have a notion about what areas should I improve in (my education is by no means over), and which kind of stuff should I focus on when I fully dedicate to my portfolio (perhaps I should also pay for a professional revision by then).

Anyway, I guess I need to say that my aim is not working in uber-realistic AAA projects, but rather to get a reasonably creative-friendly position in a medium/small game studio anywhere, with vibrant and communicative people, and to enjoy 8-hour-long brainstorming sessions getting high with coffee Very Happy

Enough words, have a look and hopefully enjoy. Every slung tomato is welcome!

Since I mostly always have an opinion about everything, I'll try to have a look around here every now and then criticising anyone who encourages it.

Hi Abel, seems you've had lots of practice with cartoon forms but look a bit lost with realism. For example; the first image with the water spilling from the large basin could use a little referencing of waterfalls. At the moment it looks more like a fabric veil.

The image of the slave creature also struggles with light and form. I would have imagined such an animal to have a wet/sticky surface with lots of small glossy high-lights, though you've portrayed this with a dry look. You might want to overlay some materials to give it some grit and help enhance some detail.

Well, that's my offering of a critique that you asked for, all else looks good.

You're so true with documentation. I always do the previous research, but once I start painting I absolutely forget about references, and I guess it pays off. I'm definitely moving this up in my to-do list.

You have my eternal gratitude, mate Wink

"caleDude and the Opium Trip" is excellent. Concept, depth, color, style are good. "Lair, Sweet Lair" is excellent too. Both are atmospheric. Palette seems a little constrained; the first is all cold the latter all warm. Works within the context of the pieces but you may want to experiment outside of this.

I'm not a fan of your other pieces. You've employed interesting visual tactics -- there's always something interesting about the lighting or color, but the character or situation never feels compelling.
