I love it! In fact I love it so much that I revived my old Sijun username just to post here and tell how awesome it is!
Having worked in games industry for a while (Age of Conan, Dragon Age) I had become slightly jaded towards games. While I was always enjoying myself I almost never got the same giddy feeling when starting a new game as I did as a kid. Some modern games ike Batman Arkham Asylum and Total War Shogun 2 became some of my favourite games of all time, but neither of them had the same overwhelming impact on me as Demon's Souls had. And now Dark Souls seems to even top that!
I'd love to co-op with any of you guys. I'm soul level 20, still in Undead Parish.
EDIT: oh and Vahn: I'll too will be living in Berlin in two weeks |

Thats exactly whats so special about this game. It is has very simple core gameplay mechanics with a pretty hard but decent difficulty. In that regard it reminds me a little of old platformers like mario or donkey kong country, where you had to try and try until you got it exactly right but without becoming too frustrating. Somehow they managed to get a really good balance of frustration and immense feeling of reward when you finally manage to kill that one boss or group of enemies. It was really refreshing in demon souls and works really well in ds as well.
Another thing i really love, is the great combat design. Weapons, hits, blocks and attacks feel really heavy and visceral. And its so precise, that you can feel in control and really only die when you make a mistake, not because the game is too unfair.
Also the visual design of combat is great in its simplicity . Sword slashes or special attacks dont need any fancy colorful effects. I always hated that in rpg's and i am a bit afraid of diablo 3 in that regard. And when you have an effect or a spell occasionally, it makes that more of an impact.
Cool you come to berlin. I love this city more and more. If you wanna meet up and talk dark souls or berlin, just contact me _________________ http://cargocollective.com/vahn |
