I have been doing one painting a day for 2 years now and I am still going. I still have a looonnggg way to go, but one painting a day will make me suck less; each paintings takes me about one hour (I try not to take longer than that).I cant uplaod all of the images becuase there are too many so here are some that dont suck as much.Any critics or comments would be greatly appreciated! its my frist time posting, sorry for the images being so big I dont know how to shrink them down.

862? You've done 862 of these? Wow, that's a lot. Smile

Are you seeing any improvement, any development in your technique?

I sort of wonder if the time you're giving each image is a little too short to get anything out of the experiment. By even 100 I would hope to be seeing some Mullins-like use of values and forms, and a growing sense of composition, and yet I'm not seeing much of any those qualities even here in the mid 800s.

Not meaning to be antagonistic, just trying to question the value you're getting out of this experiment as it currently stands. Ideally, you want each image to noticeably grow and improve from each image before.

@Sunaleth

yeah I have done 862 of them. I have seen alot of improvement in my technique/color/ and painting speed. I try not to spend too much time in each painting because I have other things going on during the day that does not allow me to spend as much time as I want to. I also don't want to start getting into details since that is not my goal; my goal is to try to figure out color relationships/lighting/composition;I try to think of something different to tackle in each painting. very few people would have "Mullins-like use of value"at 100 speed paintings.Every artist is in his/her individual skill level and by doing 100 speed paintings wont make you an equivalent to Mullins ( I wish it were that easy). Improvement comes from lots of studying, persistence and practice. If you take a look at my blog you can see at the level I was one year ago and now, I still have a long way to go but I suck less than I did a year ago. thank you for the comment.

@ shizo lol lots of stick figures

looking through your blog, you are doing a good job with creating depth and space in to your landscapes.

Be careful when painting faces. I'm one of those people who simply finds it nearly impossible to put everything in to the right place, but I've noticed that spending alot of time in the fundamental proportions and lines/curves really helps with keeping the faces in line.

Try to flip your face images horizontally from time to time, im sure you'll see what I mean.

Have you tried taking a month of, making just one image for a few more days, maybe a week, and really doing it in a higher resolution from a good reference, going through all aspect of it, so what you can learn all that you can from that one image, and maybe take your standard level higher.

It really is nice to come back to an image after a day, and see it with "fresh" eyes, and just attack everything you think is wrong in it.

I do this one painting a day thing alot, but I never really felt like it develops me technically, often it expresses my current intersts the most, lately it just makes me do the same mistakes over again. I find it really nice aa therapeutical thing after doing something stressful, for me it's relaxation from the stress I get from the thing I'm studying.

Keep it up!

here is todays and yesterdays panting. I got home reallllyyy late so yesterdays painting looks reaaalllyy crappy.

@lakka you are absolutely correct!! I am really bad at painting faces so I bought this little bust that I paint once in a while. I do agree with you that you make the same mistakes over and over again when you do a painting a day. but it also makes you realize all your weaknesses so then you can work them out. Most of the time I have another painting going on that I spend alot of time on (I mostly like to do characters). Thank you lakka!!!!

That's cause you can't resize them in bbcode, you have to manually save them in smaller size.

I don't know who your host is, but you can probably resize all of those pictures on your host's website without changing the links.

@shizo how do you resize the pictures from the hosts website? I post the picture on my blog and just copy the url to post here.for this painting I tried painting on a really small canvas in p.s,but then I lose some of the color and detail when I post it.

Here's a tutorial I found that lets you resize all images. But I dunno if it affects images posted on the forum as well.

And dude, I thought you were really just drawing stick figures, but I went to your portfolio page and it was awesome. I like how you get inspired by old and unique photos, but don't just copy them.
