Hey.
This might be a bit.. self-serving at least, but I can't help myself as I just randomly remembered my password. I'd just like to say HEY to the old guard if anyone remembers. Hope you lot are doing good.

Man I miss this place. Had the most growth as an artist here of anywhere, even in person tutoring. Love you guys, and thanks for all the tips 10 years ago ;P Maybe I can get my life calmed down enough to come back and keep learning again! _________________ -Anthony

it's astounding to me the amount of beautiful, brilliant work that's been posted here over the years, buried within thousands and thousands of pages, much of which are only broken links by now. i don't think it's much of a stretch to say this place was truly foundational to the evolution of digital art. i remember a time when the great dilemma was whether we could ever convince the rest of the world of the merits and legitimacy of digital art - ethical and philosophical arguments on what constitutes "real" art - which seems silly now that digital and traditional have become so intertwined that few even care to make the distinction anymore. it's really amazing to think back on how much this forum has impacted so many artists, how much has been learned here and how generously the lessons were taught. world-class illustrators, painters, animators, modelers, demoscene pixelers, etc. sharing invaluable knowledge and first-hand experience and asking nothing in return. i wouldn't be an illustrator/designer today if it hadn't been for this place, it's that simple. i would know nothing of "speedpainting," matte painting, cubes and spheres, lost edges, or who the hell this loomis guy is. even if i go years between visits, my password to this forum will be burned into my psyche until the day i die. |

What's that long tirade about, Tinusch? I can't comprehend so many words at once you know.
But I DO know that that Korean boy Dzah-Bee Ying should get off his ass and promote this forum to his co-workers! That way, we'll get 20-30 valve employees on here.
PS: I'm still waiting for the second tutorial that he promised. It's been liek, 13 years. |
