I'm painting an album cover for a friend of mine. He wanted a futuristic city with a motorcycle escaping into the desert, pursued by drones. I'm still working on the bike design, but I have the background at a place where I'm somewhat happy with it.

I still feel like it's kind of ... flat, or muddy. It doesn't really work as a thumbnail (which is pretty important for album art). I like the look of lightning behind the city, but having the distance be that dark prevents me from doing more traditional atmospheric perspective. I don't know, maybe it's okay and I've just been looking at it too long.

I'm going to tilt the horizon and add a little motion blur to the foreground once it's all finished, to make it a little more dynamic.

Would appreciate any feedback (although I realize I'm bad about leaving any for other people Sad)

It's my first time trying to do a finished environment in Sketchbook Pro. I like everything except the fact that you can't make brushes bigger than 512 pixels wide Mad

"...you can't make brushes bigger than 512 pixels wide"... yikes.

Beyond me but looking good - got me looking at color again (which I know
nothing about, heh)...

Yeah, it's very stripped-down compared to Photoshop or Painter, but it has really nice blending brushes, and you can get it for about $30, so ...

I figure it's good to have some limitations to work around. When I launch Painter I can never get any work done because I spend all my time trying to decide which of its 300 brushes to use Smile

Yeah, that happens to me too. Very Happy
Although after doing that 10 times, I do have some favorites now.

Your background looks like its pushed to the background, so probably a good start. The foreground objects will pop more, depending how you do them.

Yeah, this looks like an awesome background for some foreground objects. The only thing that sticks out for me are the buildings. They look like vampire teeth. Maybe make some of them squary? Those textures make them look a bit flat too.

Good feedback Shizzy. I could definitely square off a few buildings. I also need to make them look more glassy/reflective ... right now they look like solid concrete with no windows.

Thanks.

I think it's finally starting to the turn the corner out of its "ugly phase":

Still have more to do, but this is the first night where I feel like it might turn out to be a decent painting. Thanks for the feedback guys!

normally only my wife and my dog are allowed to do that, but for Shizo I'll make an exception.

Here's a little update. Not quite done yet, but getting close.

Sorry to keep bombing these in here, but here's tonight's update:

Thinking I'm about 95% done. Just need to add some airborne drones at the request of the client.

Must have been tempting to plaster Star Trek lens flare all over that head light. Smile

Haha! I totally painted a horizontal flare that crossed the whole image, but even on an album cover that shxt is too much Smile
