The theme for this month:

THE MERCILESS SEA

Inspiration image by Ivan Aivazovski

It's a phrase this month: the merciless sea. Interpretation of that phrase is up to you. The inspiration image is by Ivan Aivazovski, an artist who devoted himself to this topic, and his interpretations tend to the literal.

Hoping this is a good topic for 2d and 3d (which might be something along the lines of modeling a mountain range).

New and old accepted, 2D and 3D, digital and not, finished or sketched. Feel free to cross-post images into other relevant threads, and to post older images that fit the theme. The more images the better.

Wow munin !

I screwed up the perspective, (and I really need to calibrate my screens)
I watched some Turner's painting before doing this one

Great work guys... everybody loves the ocean, even if it doesn't care much for us.

awesome topic

Mon- thats terrifying

Munin- love the rainy feel, its like its got drips

ZM- it is very turneresque- i love the effect, though the flat horizon is throwing me off a bit, would probably feed it up into the wave and flip the craft around so he's getting rocked up the incline. i could try an overpaint if you're alright with that

falldamage- woo that is ominous, the calm before the shit hits the fan!

somebody had to do this, so it might as well be me-

and an oldie i thought fit the theme-
