wb sfr!
Really cool pics!
Looks like a collage of different picturs or layers with lower opacity.. can you explain how you made them. (if its not top secret?)
Colors are very well chosen too, fit very well togeter.

Saffron!
Nice to see you back here! I really love those pics - very contrasty, and the colors are awesome, I especially like the second one (personal taste here.=).
Good to hear you've gotten into those studies, I'm sure it will prove useful in the future!
Well, I'm almost done with the download of that new demo.. be adding to this in a short brief moment.. =)
EDIT - Cool demo as well. Some parts are real nice! =)

Welcome back Sfr! In fact I was wondering what you'd been up to lately. And congratulations on getting accepted for the editing thingy.
As usual your colors are amazing. It would be really nice and interesting to see you do some less abstract and flower'ly paintings...If you know what I mean.
Still Painter6? Come back to Photoshop...We miss you!

Hi folks!
I've been away from this place for a while, been busy with lots of stuff... Well, it's nice to see this place is still teeming, with excellent new posts from spooge, Frost and others
What's happened? Umm, I got a real profession... Well not quite yet, but a path to one anyway, as I got accepted to study film editing at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. It's the only university level design school in Finland and getting in is rather tough, as the admission rate for the film department for example is around 3-4%. So I'm sort of surprised I got accepted, but happy of course
(Why the school has so many applicants is partly because all colleges in Finland are free, in fact the state actually pays you a monthly sum when you're a college student. This probably seems odd to Americans who seem to have a "maximum value for your maximum $$$" approach to education, but at least it ensures anyone can get any level of education if they're good enough...)
I don't know if I really want to be a film editor, probably not, but hopefully this stuff will be useful for what I want to do in the future anyway. At least I don't have to worry about becoming a professional designer or illustrator anymore - I've come to realize that I simply don't want to paint for someone else. (And probably I'm not good enough but that's another matter...)
Well, I'd really like to post something new for you to see, but unfortunately I haven't had time to paint anything decent. So I'll have to settle for these two extremely quickly done thingies:
These were done for Tesla, a demo we made last week - I had a whopping 2 days to make all the graphics for it Well, I think the demo turned out fairly well actually, considering the schedule - most people here probably don't have an interest in this stuff, but here's the link anyway if someone wants to download it:
ftp://ftp.scene.org/incoming/HORIZON00/demo/tesla.zip
(win32, opengl, the usual stuff)
Long posting, sorry if I bored you... I'm just happy to rediscover this forum once again. Just one problem: when will I find the time to seriously work for that amazing head tutorial Fred did?!

Thanks, I appreciate your kind comments! (I'd be lying if I said positive feedback didn't mean anything to me - when I haven't had the time to paint almost anything for quite some time, it's motivating to know that my feeble output can still be of interest to someone...)
Nex, you're right, there are collage elements here. What I did was paint the sketch first, then I grabbed my digital video camera and shot some suitable texture material in my yard (on progressive scan to avoid those nasty interlacing artifacts), imported the video to my computer, chose some suitable stills to paste on top of the picture with masks & stuff, and then continued painting on top of the collage... This was quick and rather effective - at least it's fun to experiment with photo elements for once. (And I really love my Canon XM-1, progressive scan PAL DV rules )
Frost, nice to see you too! Your portrayal of mr Lyden rules =) Glad if you liked the demo, though I'm a bit sad about that thing, as it could have been a whole lot better with some more effort. It feels like a waste to release it unfinished... On the other hand it's nice to get off your ass and release something, if you just wait for a time when you can do everything you want, it'll never come...
Boomstick, I'll try to do something more complete, I promise... But Photoshop? Never!! Corel will get my Painter 6 when they pry it from my cold dead fingers!

Beautiful as always, Saffron. I remember watching demos a few years back and seeing your stuff.
I wish I lived in Finland. Here in the states, you can get the government to help pay for your college tuition, but I know a lot of people that have gotten screwed because of financial aid.. suddenly cutting out on them, etc.. otherwise, the richer you are, the better chances you have at getting into a nice college. Pretty dumb, let me tell you.
