Well this would be my first digital painting/airbrushing. Its purely airbrushed in photoshop, and undone at that. I have always done sketching in photoshop & painter, and this is my so-call first attempt at it. I actually sat down for a good while too unlike my normal self. Im not good with color or lightning, so I choose only 3 colors to work with for now. Im also having problems with the eyes (look, they're not there. Really just praticing at the moment.. Oh anyone know of any good eye tutorial? Also, hair seems to be a reasonal next next step.. I'll have to look at my Enalye's hair tutorial but I dont understand the smudge tool all that well (lol). But we'll see, wont we? And one more thing, how do I make those lips look really glossy?? and if they were eyes there.. really twinkley!

Hmm, ok this not the way to paint. I can see you spent a lot of time working on this but you didnt get very far.
The air brush is for making gradations. It should be considered a tool for advanced users. If you are going to use the air brush then use it on something like a car and make different selections/layers for various parts and brush them out.
Hmm, I'm not sure if you are copying or not but copying is good practice.
Also, you must think about the whole. Positive spaces form negative spaces and vice versa. Everything is a whole. You cant have one without the other.
Hmm.. maybe I should start collecting my post and make a tutorial out of them. =) |

Kardis-
It's an anime site but Polykarbon has some good tutorials on faces and the human form. Good stuff, it's helped me quite a bit. |

Hi
I'am also trying on faces. I would suggest folling two points:
1. Search for references with a really hard contrast (like the Cover of George Micheal Older CD (see my homepage) or B/W Fotographs of Helmut Newton, etc.)
2. Stay on the Brush-Tool. If you use a wacom-pad just go on. If you use mouse only, work with really small transparency-values (below 10) and black and white. Start with big brushes and after getting the outlines switch to smaller one with stronger opacity.
