hey, i just want to know who is interested in and does 3d art. I know that there is the career list and there was a poll and whatnot, but i think it would be helpful if the 3d artists on this forum know who the other ones are.
and i should have an update to my faerie chick up on the forum shortly.
i hope this isn't a dumb question.
sorry if it is
thanks,
pete

I am into 3D!
So is Failsafe.
Search for a his image posts. He's an awesome Lightwave user.

Oh, and you could find some of my 3D stuff here. I am still at a rookie level. http://www.geocities.com/ray-kool/

groove.
i am just wanting to know who is MOSTLY into 3d stuff, especially higher end film stuff. I just got back from visiting a bunch of the studios in LA and i know that at least some of the people i met prolly frequent here.
(i met loki, and visited blur(where feng moved to))and i just want to know who the main 3d people are here, even though this site isn't aimed specifically at 3d. The forums here are sweet because they are based more on art than media. on the other hand, very few of the outstanding 2d artists tend to critique much of the 3d stuff. I wish that line would blur more, but since it doesn't look like it is going to for a while in this forum or anywhere, i wanted everyone to sorta know who the 3d artists are. course, i konw of some here that won't say they are, and maybe this was a dumb idea anyway, but i thought i would try anyway.

heh I LOVE 3D, I'm more of a newbie though, and I hope to have models in a game in the near future,
for now

http://home.earthlink.net/~shahar/gallery/3D/

untill recently I've used only milkshape, since that's what I started on, but now I'm to the point where I'm almost as good with 3D studio MAX 3... (only models done with MAx are the trees, and the terran)

I've been doing 3d for about 2 years as a hobbie. Mostly making models for 1st person games. Also used to make unit for Total Annihilation.

I get paid to do 3D stuff...game models and textures and the like. For now 2D is a freelance thing. But anyway, yeah, I'm a 3D monkey right now.

I love 3D, it's my main thing!

Heh, I don't have the patience to make anything for a long time. I abandon most of my projects and finish most in a few days.

Hiya all.

I've just started using 3D programs this semester as part of my course at Uni (Computer Games Design).

At the moment, we do a mixture, 3DSMax for game modelling, and Softimage for animation, although, I think that as the course gets more game design orientated (rather than visualisation orientated as it currently is), we'll be switching to 3DSMAX and Character Studio for model animation.

Least thats whats happening, as far as i know, for next semester

Hope to be posting some of my models / animations here soon, if I ever manage to pick up the courage.

Ken

I'm getting more and more into 3d. I've done low poly modelling for games, and been working on movies. Check my site for more. Currently busy with a movie I'm doing for my folio.

In fact, better get back to it.

Hi zeebit,
I'm one of the 3D production artists at Presto. Thankfully I get to work with a group of the most talented people around (Fred, Francis, Waco, Magpie, natec,... ect.) Working with a team of artists at this level can make you feel pretty small sometimes. Hopefully I manage to hold my own around here some of the time.

just sitting here idling bored and thinking 'bout how big of a dick [bob] is and wondering at the same time, how come nobody uses Rhinoceros here?

point, Rhinoceros is a excellent little program for precise architechtural modeling, especially realtime, if you know how to build things so that you won't get 100 polygons instead of 1 polygon, or alternatively, have 3d studio max handy and know how to optimise.

we use Rhinoceros quite alot here and say Yay for it.

I do some 3D. I started in 3D then got interested in skinning and now I'm trying digital art. I'm a jack of all trades.

Okay so we are all 3d lovers here. Just wondering what result we will get from this. I mean after knowing there are lots of us here there must be some positive result right?

I came from the AEC visualization. Move to low poly modelling then to character modelling then back to low poly.

One interesting bit about me is I work at the comfort of my home for an overseas dot com company. Which makes me think are 3D artist rally rare? ;-)

beats me, the only ones that i know use rhino "seriously" are the other graphics niggers here at 'click, and a few random foo's on irc.

though we mainly use 3d studio max r3.1 / viz r3. why? it's kinda difficult to texture stuff with rhino, especially for our own 3d engine crap.

faustgfx-personally, i use maya because its modeling tools are sweet for both polys and NURBS, and that is what we use at work and school anyway. Also, i am aiming for film effects er something like that, and have noted that all of those companies use maya or max. But rhino has a sweet suite of NURBS tools for making stuff taht isn't supposed to be deformed like cars and whatnot. a lot of ID places use it too. But they bought their NURBS algorithms from sgi in the first place, so it is pretty much the same as maya. but cheaper.
yack. it is early. apparently i don't think straight when it is early.

it's also pretty essential for us to be able to develop tons of small extra tools to make our lives easier, so on the 3d modeling side, max/viz is a good choice since it's pretty damned easy to program plugins and tools and whatnot for. another yay for discreet.

Cool to see all the professionals we have here. I'm a web designer, but 3D is my true love, just trying to get to the point that my stuff can get me into the big studios. My site is at www.lunatech3d.com

I recently got a graphics tablet and I'm working on my 2D. I love the thing. =)
