Hello,

I just have a quick question to anyone who might know. How do you go about drawing the textures on an object without using a filter?

For example, how do you make a rock have the texture of a stone or a statue the texture of marble? Thanks in advanced!

well, you will have to use SOME kind of filter. you dont have to whip out Eyecandy or Kia's......use some of PS's built in filters.

for rock, try this.....
paint the shape solid grey on its own layer, then select the shape. apply the cloud filter, then do a STYLIZE>EMBOSS....crank up the settings pretty high. there you go EASY rock tecture...

you can also use clouds, lighting effects too. just make sure you click the little box "white is high"

i also have a tutorial on my site that found on rock textures. it is a bit more complex.

Bah. You don't "have" to use filters for anything. Otherwise no one would have ever successfully painted anything, ever, before computers were invented. Which obviously isn't the case.

Check out Loki's web site. He does incredibe rocky cliffs and crags, and doesn't use any filters for them. And I think he has a mega-close up of one of them, so you can see what's actually going on.

Incidentally, I'm not saying you CAN'T use filters to make good textures. Just that it's very possible to do it without, and that you'll probably end up with better results.
