It all started with a face that should totally look different to the faces I normally draw. Nothing with enlarged chin and stuff.
I drawed in high res. And I realised that I got bad problems with anatomy. The eyes look wrong and the mouth seems to be in wrong relation to the rest. Ack!

And the worst is he seems to make fun of me.

Please help!

Hey Dude,

Here's a few things I noticed:

The left cheek looks kind of funny because it's being lit up in the front and the side. (I'm assuming that light is coming from the side). Since the side of the head is almost flat, the cheek wouldn't be lit up as much.

Your location of the eyes, nose, ear, and mouth seem correct. The head needs to be a bit higher (People's eye brows are in the middle of the face or close to it).

Your shading looks pretty good so far, but I'd recommend using darker and finer shadows in the nose, eye, and lower cheek area.

Anyway, looks good so far. Hope to see a final product!

Thanks a lot.

Although it's hard for me to understand what you mean... *G*

Can somebody show with some really quick lines what is exactly meant?

I thought the nose was ok... and the arrow in the upper right shows where the light comes from.

This is a good start for shading but it could be better.

I think the ear is hurting this picture the most. Its way too big and seems to be at the wrong angle to the head.

You've also got one light sorta to the right and behind the head and another light coming from the right and below the head (or to the left if you wish to see it that way).

I'd work on the ear the most though.

I worked a bit on it and tried to fix the things you talk about as far as I understood them.

the head looks good so far anatomy wise.

according to light:

if the light is coming from the right back then part of the cheekbones, the right part of the nose and the right brow would not be lit (except by bouncelight)
the left part of the chin and the jawbone should be lit (partially) however-

the neck needs some anatomy and lighting work too.

disclaimer: all this is in my opinion and by no means guaranteed to be right

I don't know if it's correct anatomically, but it sure looks good so far.

You are making progress on it but I think the ear is too small and low now. =0 It might just be personal preference though.

I'm not sure if its right but I drew an X on the side of the head and where they meet is where I tried to place the ear. I placed it slightly above the eye line. The ear is about center of the head in a side view but in perspective dunno what happens to it.

Your best bet is to get some reference on this one. Also his chin seems a little low and prominent.

If your'e not sure, just set up
light on a model and try to analyse it.
I did it as an example on a guy at work:

There is also more to observe like perspective,Colours, contrasts etc.
Hope this can help you out a little

Thanks for your help. I tried a lot and experimented with that picture above. But I couldn't get rid of that wrong feeling you get when you look at it. I threw it in the bin since it was a practise anyway. I thought about freddio's suggestion and came to the conclusion that I maybe learn more from a reference than from drawing out of my head.
I found Putin for that purpose in the Newsweek. (p.36 Special Edition December2000 - February 2001 Issues2001)

But now I came here and saw that reference from micke. I will throw putin in the bin and start a new one or get back to the first one! Lightning is a lot better, no flashlight from the front.

THANKS MICKE! Thanks for the expense!
