Alright, this is my first landscape, including other firsts like grass texture and ocean texture and tree texture and basically the whole thing.... Need some comments from the peanut gallery..

so far it has been about 12 hours into it not including redos.

Grass is a bitch

OH YEAH I call it "the calm after the storm"
ARGH damn! how do you get it be smaller without screwing it up like it is?

couple of things.

the highlights on the water wouldnt go diaginal. they would be vertical. it is the sun reflecting straight to the viewer.

also, the highlights would get smaller as they receeded into the distance. see picture:

and i dont think i've seen water that blue, cept maybe on a map.

on the tree, it basically looks like a sillouette, with some sketchy highlights on the side. you need to develop it more because it's the focus of attention. add texture to the bark and shape to the trunk/limbs by adding a lot more shadows and highlights.

and even tho the grass looks a little "filtery" i like it.

dont get discouraged and dont give up

i kinda like the grass...the tree looks a bit out of place.. everything has texture to it BUT the tree... it looks like a cutout just placed in there...sporq pretty much said it all... add some texture to the tree, work on the water highlights, and BAM !! you should be kickin sum ass

Gunna be a little brutal here: Looks like you concentrate on detail before ever having formed the shapes and image in sketch form. If you use the Mullins method (damn wish I could refer to more than one artist!) you will find the image flows better and the areas you were unsure of in this version will be easy(er). http://www.goodbrush.com

i would find a photo of a tree in a scene with similar lighting and use it as reference...ive never done a painting of a tree...but i would go about it by getting the shading down first, then working the texture in with highlights and darker areas only after i got the shading down...but, i think getting photo reference on the tree would help you out alot

hmmm is that ocean a bit better... Jeeze this is like really the first time I've got stuck on something like this, but I shall keep moving. I did do a preliminary sketch on paper then I scanned it and put base colors down but I dont really know what you mean but "mullins" technique.

After the base colors I just kinda shaded the grass then I did that then I shaded the oceean then I tryed to do that, now I haveta shade the tree and try to do that, anyway thanks for all your help keep em coming.

heres high res version

by the way this is being done with a mouse.. So it is a lot more tedious and less detailed than using a wacom

heh the grass looks filtery? not sure what that means but the pic looks screwed up because I don't know how to make it smaller without causing it to bitmap or whatever its called.
