Heres my attempt at a paintover. Made the eye larger it looked really small to me also I removed the color to just look at the values. I think if you can get the values right you can use pretty much any fleshy colors and have it look right.. make sure your values describe the shape of the face. Other than that I think its turning out nice so far will check back on progress |

Maybe not skin problems in the real sense but rather digital. Any helpful suggestions or paintovers people can offer to help me with skin colors? General C&C also appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback, I was a little unsure about the eyes but you were right, they were rather small. Trying to play with the values and hopefully get something out of it. |

photo reference, my friend. The internet is chock full. Or get a mirror. You've used one facial colour only, you should probably vary the hue more. And usually, the slightly redder tones fit around the eyes and the nose. Take a look at the self-portrait thread that just started in the FInished section. Might be somme visual cues for you there, good luck! |

Torstein: you are 100% right about the single color use. Seems like I always go for that Plastic barbie doll look.
I just need to paint more from life, it's as simple as that. |

The skin looks like it has a nice tone, but some more color variation would bee good.
Due to the increased number of blood vessels around the cheeks and nose...those areas usually are a little redder than the rest of the face. The reason for this (i'm told) is that the increased number of blood vessels in the nose either warms the air on it's way in during a cold day - or cools the blood down a little on a hot day. The chin is a little grayer/bluish...but not TOO much or she'll appear to have a beard. The forehead is usually a little paler than the rest of the face (except for around the eyebrows. The distribution of color on the face varies a from person to person but one thing is sure...no-one has the exact same color throughout. The nose seems too long, about 1/3 less would probably put it in a reasonable size and the distance between mouth and nose is generally shorter than the distance between mouth and chin.
There are some anatomy issues you might want to take a look at:
Upper arms of different lengths and left-side upper arm is bent, arching backwards. The breasts are of different sizes. Cover up the "cleavage" with your finger and uncover it and you might see what i mean.
The right-side forearm and hand seem to disappear somewhere...seemingly into the rifle.
The rifle itself appears to be twisted due to some issues on the perspective.
Still on the anatomy, i question if such a tall woman would have such small feet.
The groin looks a little "bulky" IMHO.
I hope i've been of some use...feel free to discard whatever you don't agree with. |

Novacaptain: Thanks for the feedback. All of those points you mentioned are things I am trying to work on, not necessarily on this picture but generally. I have been so lazy drawing girls, that I have problems actually drawing them(actually making a conscious effort to fix that ). I also need to do some serious portrait work to get more of a feeling for the facial proportions and skin color and variations.
I originally intended for the right arm to rest on her hips, but I wasn't sure how to portray that when the rifle was in the way. I just winged the rifle and I agree, it's way out of perspective, Got lazy fixin that since I had to finish this for a friend of mine.
Legs are another weak point for me, this is also apparent in my male drawings(Need to take more model drawing lessons). I also agree about the groin, she actually might be thought of as a she-male or a lady that is in beginning pregnancy, not sure how to fix that.
In my opinion every feedback helps. |

It would look awesome if you would cut it in half and just focus on her top half (from her waiste up). I didn't mean that to sound perverted or anything... just that what you don't see, your imagination takes over. If you are stuck on the lower part of the body or screwed up (as in with pen) just work with what looks good and maybe come back to the bottom part so you can "learn" from your mistakes and try and correct them. But if you just did the top part of her and maybe added some phsyco war looking battle background or a star wars looking dark wall with glowing lights and some wires here and there... I think it would look great It looks cool as it is now but just saying throwing in my .025921 cents hehe |
