All right, so I admit it - I've only been drawn cute pictures lately. I'll have to make up for that with something reaaaally gory soon

Anyway, this, I wanted to look fairytale-ish, with a bit of my own usual style added into it. I gave up on the background... honestly, I wanted a window, or the sea, or whatever in the background, but I couldn't get it to work because of her pose. So I went with this... hope it works decently well at least

That looks great. I like this cutesy stuff. This one seems a little dark in my opinion though. The dark background adds an uneasy feeling to the pic. Reminds me of American McGee's Alice. Your artwork is really impressive.

Enayla: Beautiful work there. The tone and detail on the fabric is excellent. A wonderfully soft approach.

My only crit is that, well, dang, it would be kinda neat to see some really hard shadows in there. [cue boos and hisses]

Either way, your style comes through extremely well, nice work!

Well, you already know my thoughts on this, so I won't waste any time with those.

I just came to cheer on the frogs. Go Frogs Go!

Ooh, and this future gore-laden picture. Can't wait.

This is definitely some of your more realistic hair, though I'm thinking shampoo-commerical realistic. =) I love the metal rings around the frame. She makes me think of Claudia from Interview with the Vampire.

this looks nice, enayla.
the hair and dress are very well done. very good form. her face could be improved i think. it's pretty, but it doesnt have the same perfectness of the hair and dress. maybe some hard shadows like ceenda said would help? i'm not sure.

the face seems a little 2d to me. maybe cause it's in perfect profile with almost no shadow.

maybe try turning the face a bit, either to or away from the viewer. i dont know. nice pic though, of course.

Thanks everyone!

I know there's some problems with the face. I tried shadowing it, I honestly did, but every time I did I lost some of the "pretty doll look". I don't /really/ want the face to look realistic. A little bit more realistic, yes, but not as realistic as most of my faces.

I'll see what I can do about it...

Yup, it's something right out of a fairytale. Great work, especially the linen and hair. I still think the face needs a little more shadowing - but that's just me

something is telling me that I dont like this pic. I dont really know what though. Maybe it seems a little...like you did 2 pics, the background and the girl and they dont really match somehow.
I think it lacks some sort of base. Looks like you jumped to the details directly like it wasnt really planned through. well. I dont like the overall pic but the "parts" by themselves arent bad at all.
I didnt think faerytale-ish style was so detailed? well I havent looked at too much pics but I think it would look better with not so much details.

It makes me think of a Koreisch song called "eclectic powder burn".

I think it went something like "AWRAAAAAAGHHHHHH!!! GRAAAAHHHH!!! AAAGHHHHHHH!!!!".

Hi. Incredible detail work. And I *DO* think the background goes well with the girl. It gives it an old turn-of-the-century advertisement feel.

I agree with the others that it looks a bit flat, though. I think the problem is that the light is coming from above her in the front, like where the rings are (but perhaps a bit farther away) - but the curls toward the back of her head are getting just as much light as her bangs. It's not so much a matter of having deeper shadows, it's just that there are some shadows missing. Fix that up, and you've got one hell of a pic. (Not that you don't already!)

hi enayla,

this is damn kitch but incredibly well done, i'm speechless regarding the hair ; the way you ve imagined it is worthy of an hairdresser.
I d be curious to see you draw things out of that style, i mean not drawing naked girls with big guns like we see many, but something more realistic and less cute.

see you

Bloody hell, I had typed down all the answers and the stupid machine glomps them down in an Exploder crash

-- Transcendent -- : Shadowing coming up as soon as I get the time I promise!

Slicer: Well, everyone has a right to have their own taste, ne? As I said in my first post with the pic, the background WAS added as an afterthought but I pretty much like it actually The girl looks just like I want her to look (beyond the details some people have pointed out to me) and she was pretty well planned. I often draw characters, and tend to add the background afterwards (stupid, I know… but no one’s perfect, right?) As to the fairytale style… I doubt there actually IS one. Compare the myriads of different styles people use to illustrate fairytales! What I meant was that I wanted this picture to have a fairytale feel, like she’s a cute little thing from a story. And details are my trademark… no way I’m dropping them.
Faustgfx: Sowwy! *gives him a popsicle*

Spitfire: Heeeh… why do I get the feeling you don’t like this one?

Redix: Now that is a compliment! As to the hair bit, do a search for hair tutorials on the forum, I have added one somewhere around here (old forum, though)… but the hair for this gal was basically just a lot of time and small brushes.

Waylon: Glad to hear you think the background works. I think I’ll work with your ideas on the hair… Don’t have the time right now though (I do work full time after all)
Toast!: I was kind of aiming for kitch (or something akin to it at any rate)… and as to the hair – I love drawing hair. One of my favourite pastimes … but really, this isn’t actually the style I /usually/ work in. This is just something I’ve been doing lately (the cutsey stuff) because I’ve been in the mood.

Others have said it but amazing detail on the hair and the dress. I like the dark bg, as Chapel said the pic feels uneasy as though there's something more to piece than an innocent looking girl.

Wow, that looks lovely!

I think you get the biggest volume of posts on this forum(s) with the possible exception of Dhab. I heard a couple people say that it was something about being a woman, but I'm one and I hardly get any I know I'm no you, but jeez!

Anyhow, I LOVE the pic and I really wanna see more stuff from you! ...and I know you get that a lot.

Have a nice day!

ok, i hope you dont mind me editing your pic, but i finally realized what was bothering me about the pic. its the hair.

at first i thought it was the face, cause the face is so small compared to the hair, but i think the problem is actually with the hair in back. it seems far to poofy, and it sticks out too much, i just squished it down to about half it's size(horizontally) and i think it fits the shape of the skull better. it also seems to give it a bit more depth.

but maybe im seeing things? i hope this helps, and i hope it doesnt offend

Wheeeh, SporQ, you're an angel! That helps a lot... guess I was just too caught up in making the curls pretty to notice that! I'll fix it tomorrow night after work! *hugs*
