Oh alright! It doesn't quite fit into the little sijun geographic series. Unless my kitchen floor is going to become the hot tourist spot this summer. Whee! Book your flights now!

Some pics I shot last night, experimenting a bit with lighting. It case you can't tell, I wasn't in the greatest mood either. *chuckles*

And here is another short series based on vanity, sort of.... maybe I just felt like snapping shots of me painting my toenails.

I'm on a roll or something! Here I was playing around with trying to capture different colors. The lighting wasn't very good so I was getting some blurry pics, but I rather liked them like that. It was like it made the colors more important than the subject.

And here's a few more... snapping shots of spoons. Reflections are spiffy!

Was it a digital camera or a normal one? In the second spoon shot one can see your reflection. Seems its not a digital one since you dont use the display.
"a scary looking self port"? What part exactly is the scary one? Nice long hair you have...

Thank you both.

Yeah, I know you can see my reflection in the spoon. It was partially intentional in that I snapped the pic, saw my reflection and decided to keep it because I liked it).

Its a digital camera I used for all of these. A Minolta Dimage 7.

And the part that is scary is that freakish, back-alley thug stare of mine. *laughs*

These are nice photos...what kind of food is in your kitchen? it might be a nice tourist attraction

I really like the bottles and spoons...the kitchenfloor ritual is great too...beautiful color.

Just a curiousity: where does the phrase "there is no spoon" come from?

The food in my kitchen? Welp, that will definitely keep the tourists away. *laughs* Rarely have I met a person that wasn't afraid to step foot in a vegetarian kitchen.

And the phrase is from The Matrix. Said by the little boy bending the spoon with his mind.

Oh yeah! Thanks It's been bugging me for weeks now. I think vegetarian food is yummy by the way! Does the camera itself have a way of taking greenish-gray and regular-gray photos or did you run it through photoshop?

Very productive session! Good stuff.

So, Jez, how you like using a digital? If I remember correctly, you've been a film photographer for while, so I'd like to hear what it was like for you to make the switch.

Aren't low-light scenes a bitch to shoot? I've done quite a few and they are always a headache. The shutter speed has to drop down to something like 1 second, while your apeture needs to be wide open, with the ISO at the highest, causing lots of grain. How do the pros take low-light shots that are so clean?

Creative, skillful shots, Jezebel. You might want to try backlighting glass a little more next time you shoot. You get a much more interesting tonal quality.

Lunatique: Professionals use either very expensive digital cameras, or they use film, or photographic plates (which have no grain to interfere). There's a good technique that works like a charm, too. The trick is to have a well-lit scene, and shoot it with the aperture stopped down to like, 16 or 32. That way, it comes out looking like a dark shot with none of the mess. In fact, a LOT of commercials and movies use this effect to shoot things at 'night', when it is in fact the middle of the day.

Shooting day for night sucks. It never really looks right. Particularly when they think it's a good idea to use a graduated filter to simulate setting sun. That ALWAYS looks bad.

A very creative eye to take such wonderful pics of ordinary household items and make them interesting to look at.

I've been real busy lately so I haven't had the time to post more of my Sijun Geographic pics but I wanted to at least catch up on commenting on all the ones everyone has been posting lately. These have been more interesting then some of the things I've seen on photography forums.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

Luna - Using digital has been really nice, especially since I'm so impatient when it comes to viewing my photos. *grin* I also like being able to immediately illiminate all the trash to make room for better things. Film is still the best way to go in my opinion though, digital can be so grainy sometimes (like you mentioned about the low lighting conditions).

Impaler - You're right about the backlight. I've been meaning to get some more lightbulbs so I could play with that. My cats always manage to bust the ones I'm using while I am taking pictures. I think they are jealous.
