I think this is the best thing I have seen from you. Very solid rendering, looks almost 3d'ish. Did you paint it straight out and in what program? Excellent work! |

Awesome! The background is VERY realistic, but the octipus is fantastic, especially since it's your own creation.
Altogether the whole piece works extemely well. Very inspirational! |

thats a great image. i just found this kinda interesting, if the octopuss wasnt there, i wouldnt know it was underwater really. just thought that was odd. i do know its some kinda hull of a ship or plane, but its difficult to peg as being underwater, if the octopuss wasnt there. |

OMG I've sullied your image with a heavy-handed overpaint! Of course, I'm all about the gaudy highlights and brazen underlighting. Too much tv, I suppose. I saw on the Discovery channel that octopi tentacles can function independently from the brain. Simple movements are actually programmed into the arms themselves --the brain simply sends the intial command and the arm executes the complex movements. I wish I could say that about my arms. Brain: "Paint Masterpiece!" Arms: "No problem!"

That's really cool. I think Pat made some good suggestions with his overpaint. |

Survey says i need mo contrast. Ok, I guess so. I like a subtle image though, but I guess you can have subtlety AND contrast of light. Ill work on it.
pat, thanks for including me in your links. Ill return the guesture in a couple months when I update my site. Thanks for the help the image too. I do have an apendage that acts on it's own but it only caused problems.
Jabber and n8, youre right. It needs some kind atmophere, or junk floating, seaweed ect...
Sedone, I just remembered you have a sympathy for the underwater tentacled beasties. you stuff is great. I really like your last site design, btw. I quess your current one is less distracting from the content, but the last one was really beautiful, great colors.
thanks again, -ted |

wouldn't there be alot of green reflected light hitting that octopussy? It looks a weee bit too read as of now imo. I think that would strenghten the illusion.
Also airbubbles, tiny ones = win. |

Very cool..the octopus doesn't seem to blend into the background too well though. It looks a little like those cel animattions where you know what is going to move because of its more vivid coloring. I think that the octopus' shadows shouldn't be darker than those of its surroundings (especially the elements behind it). |

Don't get rid of all of the low contrast areas. I think depending on the particle density of the water, the contrast would continue to lower the farther the distance away from the lense/eye. This would cause visibiltiy to recede drastically in the distance, probably only slightly in the picture, depending on the thickness of the water.
And I agree with novacaptain, the shadows/dark spots on the octopus should have the same value as the other shadows on its "level" (foreground/middleground)...
But thats just me being picky. Amazing work. Simply amazing.

Beautiful subject matter. You REALLY captured the environment well.
I agree with Binke's suggestions as well as Pat's overpaint. Then again, I have tendancy to over-work things, so pay no attention to the disgruntled Australian bear. |

Very nice! I think the only thing it lacks is some caustic effects (looks at some underwater pics of whales and such). Also, you might want to add a little greenish fog to far end of the octopus to help it blend in with the environment a little more. I say the contrast is good. Underwater is foggy and you don't have much contrast. If you add some caustic highlights, it'll take care of the lack of higher values. |

kickarse man, really love that backdrop.. kinda like a slicker version of spooges stuff. Octopus does looks very red tho, almost like a cartoon octopus (was that an intention?). Did a quick alteration just to see the difference, (added abit of light coming thru that hole aswell). Maybe looks abit more boring, but more realistic imo. Depends what you were aiming for I guess.
