Heres an older piece, it was done over two years ago - the idea was to start out from a poem and somehow create a visual representation. The poem was "Grodek" by Georg Trakl (translation below by me), the German version is easily available through Google. The whole thing was done during one evening, Ive been thinking about redoing the whole pic but Ive never quite gotten around to it.
The poem is about the battle of Grodek (somewhere in Galicia) during the first world war, where Trakl served as a medic. There (among other places) he witnessed the horrors of the war, something which eventually led to his suicide less than a month later.
Well, tell me what you think.
Grodek (Georg Trakl)
In the evening the autumn woods sound
Of deadly weapons, the golden plains
And blue lakes, and the sun above
Rolls dismally, embraces the night,
Dying warriors, the fierce wail
Of their broken mouths. But silently under the willows gather
Crimson clouds, within an angry god resides
The spilt blood, the coldness of the moon;
All roads end in black decay.
Under the golden branches of night and stars
The sisters shadow wanders through the silent grove
To greet the spirits of the heroes, the bleeding heads
And the dark flutes of fall sound quietly through the reeds
Oh prouder sorrow! You iron altars
Today the hot flame of human minds feeds on a great pain
The unborn grandchildren.

thanks, actually it was a combination of Photoshop, Painter(Classic) and Bryce... the whole thing was made during one evening, so i suppose it lacks polishing, but at the time I was quite happy with it.
btw: some newer stuff is in the "portraits" thread. |
