Painted in Painter 8, it was mainly just practice and to see if I could even do it. I think it is Sir Edmund Hillary, the dude that climbed Everest with no oxygen. Anyway, I used his picture on the front of this April's National Geographic. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the progression of the painting.

Pretty good, love the hair. Someone posted a pencil rendering of that photo from the National Geographic a few months ago. |

Well on popular demand, here I am to give you some feedback.
The face anatomy is slightly off. His nose and mouth are moved towards his left. From the pic, I reckon you've tried to paint his face with his head slightly rotated away from the camera, but the nose and mouth do not follow. His right eye is a bit small, and the wrinkles above the eyebrow is very angular contributing to the anatomy being slightly off.
I also think some of the dark values in the face are not reading. Too contrasty. Keep values tighter - you can even push blacks up.
Other than this, very well done. _________________ http://www.somniostudios.com |

Thank you for the advice. Now I know not to take the first few steps of a painting for granted. I rushed to fast and ended up having Sloth from the Goonies. |

I did a little work on the ears, they looked unfinished.
