Hello there...
I've been watching this forum quite a while now and I am really stunned considering the high artistic level here. Respect!
I always have been scribbling around with my pencil and a short time ago I got a cheap graphic tablet, so I started with digital painting.
Below you can see my first serious attempt in Painter, and I'd really like to know whats wrong with it. I wanted to create a "realistic" spaceship but it doesn't look so.
Is it just because there are some perspective errors?
Or are there some big errors in the lighting?
Thanks in advance!

Not to be rude or anything, but there are a lot of perspective errors, just about everything on the ship seems to be at a diffrent angle. I think it might be best for you to sit down and make a line drawing of teh ship first, and then scan it and work with it digitaly, at least for now untill you get a better feeling for the programs.
as fo how to paint it, im sure you can find some good tutorials here in sumaleths link section.

hope this helps _________________ Visit glitterbugs Secret Forum |

Thanks for the hint. I think you are absolutely right considering the perspective.
But do you think it's the only thing that's wrong? _________________ For every problem there's an answer that is short, simple and wrong. |

well teh perspective isnt the only problem. the the shading has some problems too. they need to be sharper for an object like a ship, and you shaded to dark in some areas, especially the tail as the jets flame would light it up more anyways. id worry about geting the perspective right first though, cause after that you can just fudge around with the coloring all ya want untill it looks right.
Seriously, get a ruller and a pencil and start off with a line drawing for now and get perspective solid, then scan it and work from there, cause it will be a lot harder doing it in painter especialy since your new to it. and if you dont have a scanner to do that just work on a less perspective heavy project for now and work you way up in painter.
Good luck though, I wanna see what you can come up with, you have potential if that was your first attempt with painter. _________________ Visit glitterbugs Secret Forum |

Many thanks for your comments and motivations.
Seems like I made the same error like many other beginners: Trying to paint the ber-phat picture with my new tools (tablet and painter) without paying attention to the basics.
Hope I can do better.... _________________ For every problem there's an answer that is short, simple and wrong. |

youll do fine bizarro, you just need practice, everyone has to start somwhere.
I found my self in your postion to, i made big complicated images before learning the basics ( hey i stll have to learn a few things too), you just need to ease into it.
relax, patience is the key. _________________ Visit glitterbugs Secret Forum |
