A guy I know named Garry (I'm doing a splash screen for a game he's working on) recently released a HL2 mod that's basically a sandbox. You can load any item from the game and do all kinds of posing and physics experiments. I was messing around this evening and discovered that one could probably use it for rough pose reference:




(I shot her on accident, I swear. The facial morph gun looks just like the regular pistol.)

The model selection is limited to what's in the game, but you can arrange props, position each joint independently, and place a lightsource for your key light. There's a neat adjustable depth-of-field effect but it doesn't work with my ancient video card.

Anyway, if you wanna mess around with it, go here (4 meg download, HL2 required).

Here�s a shot from the expanded ending. It involves the player suddenly being transported to a room with the main characters laughing in light of the plot which fails to resolve itself in a way that makes any sort of sense at all.

With Valves buget cuts they couldn't hire real models. So they settled for the cheapest thing.

It's set in and around the area of City 17, it's some random Eastern European city under the control of, well, aliens, in the form of the Combine.
