Well,
my dream was always to end up at Art CEnter since it's supposed to be 'godly' for what I want to do. However, it isn't free, and I think it will be too much for my parents and I to handle financially since I have 2 sisters that will be entering college in turn right after me.
So... I decided to look at some other schools.
The School of Visual ARts is appealing to me since it's in NYC which is about 40mins-1 hour away from my home, and that it is not as expensive as ACC(art center).
I'm applying to scholarships and all, but I don't think it will cut it. And I highly doubt that I will get a free-ride to AC.
So I just wanted to know the opinion from people who are attending/attended there.
Good? Bad? Okay? Exceptional?
Thanks in advance,

Hey Annis-
The skinny on ACCD? Here goes--
No, it isn't free, not by a longshot. Right now, I'm figuring that I have to clear about 70k upon getting a job out of school to afford my loans. Yikes.
As for scholarships- It's REALLY hard to figure out what they're looking for. I didn't get scholarships (and I had a 3.86 college GPA upon entering), neither did ALOT of guys I know whose work is STUNNING. Then, there are people I know who got 70-100% scholarships, so people do get them. It is a mystery to every student at Art Center as to who gets awarded and why.
I haven't seen your work, so I really couldn't comment on if you could get in. For awhile, they were letting in A LOT of people, so your chances are better whatever the quality of your work. I hear that is going to change, though because everyone is bitching about the incoming student population.
Is it worth it? Depends on your goals and what you put into the school. It's really easy to slack there and fall into just "finishing" the assignments (which are demanding). I have on average 40 hours of homework a week. Sometimes I fall into the "hurry and poop it out in time for class" thing. Hard not too. The best thing about it is being instructed by professionals that are absolute studs at what they do. Shureman, Page, Robertson, Robison, all those guys rock, and your work gets better as a result of their input.
No matter what they say, there is no job placement program at art center. Getting a job on graduation is a result of what you put into your portfolio and, sometimes, how much the instructors like you. Lots of times teachers will hook up someone they like with a gig.
Anyway, hopw that clears it a little. |

jimmyjimjim> thanks for the awesome reply . i appreciate the review. yeah... the money is a big problem. My gpa's okay. it's a 3.7 at the moment. My digital work is at: www.annis-naeem.com . Anyhow, I guess I won't be landing a full-ride since I'm nothing phenominal. Asfor the school of visual arts; thats what I also needed to know about in comparison to Art Center. thanks again. Any School of visual arts students/graduates here? _________________ http://www.annisnaeem.blogspot.com/ |
