I've connected my laptop to the stereo using a minijack to component; it works but the sound level off the receiver is way low (all laptop levels are up, nominal - I have tested the levels with headphones, etc). Does anyone know the fix? I am super jonesing to get my plaza screensaver and John Digweed going with the projector but alas!
Thanks, danke, grazi . . . _________________ - Tom Carter

Oh man, I'm tempted not to help you since you just admitted liking Digweed
What all inputs does your receiver have? If it has a line-in/CD/tape input, try one of those. My only guess is that you've got it routed through a turntable-in, which would be expecting an amplified signal instead of the line level signal that's coming out of your laptop. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

I have Video 1 and 2; 2 is used, so I tried 1 - same problem. I also tried the tape and CD/SCD; it works but still muted.
Ok - I don't like like / dislike Digweed; I do have some Kiss100 sessions a friend gave to me, and they're good for background music when I am working in the basement, exercising, etc. It's not bad stuff but probably a bit too dynamic for my purchasing tastes; I am more of a trance / ambient dude. _________________ - Tom Carter

Your soundcard's onboard amp is way too weak (it's probably about 3 watts) to drive stereo speakers. There's a special soundcard out there with component jacks and a 60 watt amp or so, but it's hardly worth the trouble.
So, pre-amp it, or run it through a more powerful receiver. _________________ QED, sort of. |

You mean like an audio breakout box? Brian - weren't you talking about those a while back? I guess that would help. _________________ - Tom Carter

I really liked the early stuff he did with Sasha as Northern Exposure, but as solo guys, I don't really care for either one. |
