The concepts are the same, don't you think? I've been playing with Acrylics for a few months now, taking a break from Photoshop.

Original sketch

First is Kung Fu Action. 16"x20" acrylic on gessoed masonite. My concept is actually going to be 4 comic panels, each an individual masonite board, depicting a short battle between the Shaolin monk and the ninja.

Second is Robotic Crucifixion. 16"x20" acrlyic on gessoed masonite. The colored are all muted with blue and grey tones. Once I'm finished with the robot, I'm going to cover him with frisket and paint the background with an impasto style. Its going to be very grainy and dirty with dark blue colors. I'm trying to get the background similar to the style of Brom.

I'm not much of a painter, I've always just been a sketchpad person really, but I went to Photoshop several years ago and loved it, but now I want to work with traditional mediums. I've only had one painting workshop ever, and we covered some basics in Color and Design in college. But other than that, I have no formal training. Its basically what I've read, stared at(trust me, I can get lost looking at Spectrum books and Frazetta books for hours), or came up on my own.

Tips would be most helpful.

Yes... the same. but, of course, the technique and skill sets are quite different.

I've also been gearing up to return to "traditional." In my case it's oil painting. Been working on the layout for a large (44" x 72") painting. After 12 years of nothing but digital work, it is a serious challenge... not like riding a bicycle... Smile
