hey, haven't been here in a while...I usually only come here when I consider changing my major to art and need to be humbled back into submission, lol (as is the case now). Here's something I've been working on, have at it! (ps, her left hand hasn't been drawn yet)

You don't really need to be that humbled as this piece proves that you can do the work that others in this forum can. IT's all a matter of practice. If everything could be done just by looking at it or trying it a couple of times we'd have a shitload of doctors from straight out of highschool. IE it all takes time, practice, and learning.

Anyway, before I start waxing too profoundly on that subject, let's take a look at your piece.

The main thing that you have going on in this picture that is bugging me( and that will reflect to all of the aspect of the piece) is the basic shape and form of the figure. talking about planes and angles here, the plane of the chest looks like it is facing away from you, but is also nearly 90 degrees different than the hips. You can't see the hips, but you can see the legs which are connected to the hips. Try putting yourself in her pose. Personally I can't get any father than a 45 degree difference in where my hips are pointing and the way my chest is pointing.

The shoulders are at differing heights, and this isn't just due to thier position. both arms look as if they were meant for the body from a different angle and are joined to the torso too far out and in the wrong place. The left arm is far eough back to seem disloacated, and in addition to the spine twisting required for her hips to be in a different location make me feel sorry for her back in the morning.

A quick fix I just noticed, and I apoligize about this coming in the middle of my previous comments: If you take the legs you drew, mirrored them the other way to that they were facing the left, and then moved the incorrect position of the spine (Push it more to the right, just coming off of the back of the neck) then your picture would make alot more sence. STill that doesn't fix the disjointed look of the arms, just makes it easier to deal with and fix. Fix the arms by bringing them closer to the body and the shoulders in line with one another. The connection to the torso should be at roughly the same point unless she's bending over, in which case her entire torso should also be leaning forward.

Lastly. Her feet look a bit big, and if I remember correctly, the shoes should be curved more towards the heel of the foot. Also the calf muscle moving the foot into that position causes it to contract, so draw the bottom curve of that muscle with a sharper curve.

Anyway, hopefully you fix up this drawing and then post it here, even though this response comes 3 months after the initial post.

IronWolf, you should'nt use such a slanguage. faeklone gives some nice tipps and constructive critics.

I like the colors of the pic and the feathers. In rest i agree with faeklones points

Thank you for your critique, Faeklone!

I probably won't fix this piece since I kind of got disinterested with it soon after I posted this, but your crit confirms what I had already come to realize: I need to take figure drawing. I've been wanting to for a long time now, but I couldn't find one at home where you didn't have to be 18 to go. But, I am drawing my first live model tomorrow in my drawing class, so wish me luck!
