Just wondering who are the brave ones that's upgraded, and what the general consensus is. I might not upgrade for a while since many of my music-making plugins probably won't be compatible with Vista until new versions are released.

I found vista sluggish on my laptop, so i changed to xp,
and it runs smooth as silk now.
dont know much about vista, but i can tell you its very pretty.
i like the window button+tab thing... its like alt+tab, but swankier.

Itīs the same compatibility issues with every new windows version. I would (will) wait for vista service pack 3, and then look again if it has got any better.
Btw, wacom drivers has some issues too with vista and some Nvidia graphics cards, so you would want to avoid that combination.
They say at wacoms forum that the issue is now fixed, but things arenīt that black and white in reality.
So my advise is to wait, but if you HAVE to upgrade. Then Good luck.
You will need it.

Very Happy

I used it for two days. nay!!!
It needs up to 1 Gig of ram without any programms open.
The whole transperancy/blur/whatnot stuff is useless imho.
It might be cool for games and movies and fun stuff, not for a working setup tho.
I switched back to XP 64 which is just perfect for 2d/3d applications.

My opinion: Vista, from an experience design perspective, is the slickest thing out of Redmon. It's really nice, Aero is nice - I found the whole UI stuff cool - very cool. I ran the last two betas (RC1 and RC2) on my laptop for a few months. I liked it but eventually opted back to XP Pro, because I found Vista a bit to bloated on the startups (slow). Plus I had a small UI issue with CS2. Also I had admin privelages, but it wouldn't let me exercsie those privelages. Coulda been a beta thing - who knows? XP is leaner and easier to manage, imo.

If you're planning on running graphic applications and games, Vista may not be ferya, but I'd recommend it to casual users.

Yeah, I've always been a late adopter, since I like to let other people work out all the bugs for me first. I typically upgrade OS only when important shit I use no longer supports the older OS and I'm forced to upgrade (or really amazing new shit that would only run on the new OS comes out).

Every single person that's got Vista installed at my job absolutely hates it. All day long I hear under people's breaths "Fucking Vista...." Very Happy

Iīm not sure if that is beta problem. Weīve had similar problems with privilages at work with the release version. Our computer support has had a real headaches trying to fix our wierd problems with vista. Main problems was with network connections.
One wierd problem with vista was that it deletes all user data, after some time has passed from OS installation, and every time you restart the machine every user settings will be corrupted and reseted to the default. So every time you restart you will have to reconfigurate your tablet settings, your photoshop setting, your desktop, your other program settings, your.. and the list goes on. The user data can not be restored by any how, and even admin has no previlages to delete broken user data folder. We had this same problems with many machines, and we tried everything to fix it. Only thing that fixed the problem was to reinstall the OS! Very Happy

megaflop, gigaflop, teraflop... vistaflop. It's the new gauge in low performance computing. I also hear my colleauge at work constantly cussing vista whilst everyone else sits calmly with xp.

Although Iīm not sure if itīs entirely Vistaīs(TM) fault that it doesnīt work as expected. I think most of the problems comes from the third party programs that just doesnīt support Vista's(TM) advanced techniques.

SP1 is out in a couple of months which will hopefully fix alot of the issues people have - i've used it on a couple of machines and found that things i needed to use (stuff thats usually found on the start menu like RUN) weren't in their usual place and i had to go searching for them..

i will have to go Vista64 soon as i'm going to need a hefty amount of RAM to cover a project i'm going to be working on.. as i've already said i didn't like the interface and will be changing it as soon as its installed, the hardest thing for me will be actually being stuck with the windows interface as i'm running my own custom litestep setup now..

You not running XP 64 then bob?

The only thing that will make me consider switching is directx 10 games mainly ie crisis. But work takes priority right now.

Being on a bleeding edge wore of with teenage years for me. I don't see a single thing about Vista that would improve my windows experience (and work flow) and hear nothing but problems from everyone who uses it.

With exception of small group of friends who are in love with the new interface.

And as a former developer, i was more excited about SQLFS, vector UI and .NET fusion than about that sugarcoated unstable turd they released after cutting all the cool features.

If i was to buy a Windows right now i'd still go for XP. Wink

Im fine with my XP , so i dont see any good reason to switch. Maybe directx 10 ok, but there arent so many games that support it yet. And most games will likely also support directx 9, so its not a good point for me. And im not that kind of person who will spend 300 euro for an os + 300 eur for a graphics card just to get some new dx10 bump mapping effects. i hate this graphics hype. games nowadays are usually damn short and dont have much depth. they only focus on super graphics but the gameplay often sucks. bubble bobble is more fun to play than the 20th world war clone shooter with super realistic water effects. And last thing that i really dislike about vista is, that it needs such a huge amount of performance for just running smoothly.

anyway, i tweaked my XP so it looks like vista, cuz i like the look Smile the folders and window buttons also have that special vista look. even my msn joined Wink hmmm and i will turn off my pc soon...71 hours uptime..whoops Laughing

i did and loved every minute of it, the OS was so responsive, but i hit a brick wall with it when i found a job i had needed me to use my scanner and printer and i was stuffed! epson didn't do drivers for either, and i couldn't use all the features from my old keyboard and mouse (logitech in their wisdom thought it best to only support their new stuff under XP64!)

so i had to bite the bullet and revert back to XP32 Sad

looks like my new Epson1400 is supported in 64 tho' and my scanner! looks like i might be shifting back to 64 when my current project is finished Very Happy

math - And having Maki Goto decorate your desktop can't hurt either.

Have you seen her latest music videos--the ones after she's gone through her "mature and sexy" transformation? I think the record company might have bought her a new pair? Wink

Meh. I wont touch Vista until its absolutely needed. It just seems like a steaming pile of Windows ME to me.

When Vista becomes industry standard and nothing coming out supports anything but... Ill buy a mac.

Everyone at college who I've spoken with who has it (because it came with their computers, they didn't choose to have it) hates it.

They just say it's horrible in general and have asked if I can help them somehow put XP on their computers instead.

i've swapped from Vista64 to X64, the 3D app support under Vista is poor..

I usually always run a full generation behind in OS until it has time to gain full support.

I ran NT until 2004 when I finally switched to XP. Never regret waiting. I figure a couple years and I might switch to Vista.

XP64 is very intriguing, but driver and app support makes me hesitant.

Nay to that POS Vista.

OSX all the way! And using bootcamp to run XP on my mac when I need windows - best of both worlds.

Vista is the beginning of micrsoft's well deserved downfall.
