Just a reminder that the deadline for the digital arts festival is fast approaching, so if you have digital art youd like to exhibit at this event, do so by going to the website and uploading your work: http://www.redmondartsfestival.com.

As Kamal mentioned, Ill be one of the judges and Im looking forward to seeing all the submissions

Also deadline for submissions has been extended to September 8th, so if you were planning to submit this will give you a bit more time to put on those final touches!

A Dhabih thread and not even one reply yet? Wow, this place sure is slow lately.

Will you wear a wig and wield a tiny judges hammer?

I saw his post yesterday, was tempted to reply with some witty retort about his presence... but didn't.

Dha, I know your heart is in the right place.

I hope you get enough entries for this contest so that it comes out looking halfway decent.

But, truth be told, the forces behind this event fell down badly on the job of getting the word out, and participation up.
The first heard about this event was not very long ago here on Sijun, and while I know you are not the most up-to-date webmeister (Oh! How I wish you'd update the Sijun Front Page! Gah!), 3 weeks is simply not enough time for a decent response from those artists skilled enough to make this event look sharp.

The deadline extension seems to have validated the lack of quality entries, but it is still a case of too little, too late.
With an entry fee of $15, just to come up with the $1000 prize would need 67 entries. And then you have to hope you can find 3 out of those (at least...) worthy of public display and prize awarding...

Promotion for this event was (still IS) pretty lame. All that hype about Digital Arts, and not one, NOT ONE example of digital arts beyond the banner image, and a recycled version with a pixellated figure with a graphic equalizer above the planet...For shame.

Couldn't you, Jeff DuLong, Monte Michaelis, Stephanie Andrews, or any other "ARTIST" have contributed something to help decorate the site? Wait, I forgot. You're the guy who can't even update his own website in 3 1/2 years...Nevermind...

I really hope you have a kickin' turnout for this, but if the DAF website as it is right now is any indication, I suggest you bring a good book to read, you're going to have a LOT of quiet time on your hands for those 2 days...

Hey guys, I appreciate the comments about the festival though I'd suggest you sensor any comments or accusations you wish to make toward specific people.

With regards to Swetums comments about the festival, here are my answers:

1) The deadline extension was specifically because the school year starts the first week of September and we wanted to give schools the opportunity to hear about the call so that students had a chance to submit their work.

2) The artist page has six examples of digital art at the very top. We'd post some of the amazing work that's been submitted so far, but that could bias the judges, so we won't be showing any work until the judging takes place

3) I think the website is better and more exciting than most festival sites. That being said, the program is really the part to be focusing on don't you think? The site is simply a vehicle for information and registrations which I'm happy to report are going very well!! About half of the registrations are local (which is great!) but the other half are from other cities, states & even countries!! We've got India, Colombia, Mexico, The Netherlands, the list goes on!! We're so thrilled!!

I hope you all have an opportunity to attend and see for yourself what a great event this is going to be.

Kamal
