You've probably noticed we lost everything since about August 2015.

I contacted the webhost to see if they knew what happened and it turned out they did: the raid array died. They installed new hardware and reinstalled a backup they were able to recover, which was unfortunately from August 2015.

Sad

Are you aware that you are having downtime everyday now? For a period of several hours everyday Sijun is unreachable...

I didn't know that. I'll check in more often and see if I can catch it down.

Seems better now but I will keep an eye every now and then...

But it has been a lot of downtime... Maybe someone else can confirm?

Anything in the logs Sumaleth?

I did notice it over the last few weeks.
It happened several times that I saw.
But not in the last few days.

Oh yeah, last week it was apparently down while I was away. There was a problem with an account spamming or something. It clogs up the system and then nothing can happen. Bleh.

Lately it's been down at least once a week, often a couple days in a row. Latest was
about twelve hours ago.

The hosting service moved to a new datacenter to try and get away from these down times so the one yesterday was disappointing. But maybe it was just part of the move, not sure. We'll have to see how it goes in the coming weeks.

Is it the spamming still?

I have an idea if you are up for it..? We could maybe disable new members from enlisting that way to block spammers... or a new member enlisting policy, in perhaps 3 steps or something.
Just thinking out loud now though. Smile

More spam (nike/adidas) and a thought: I think posting three or four samples of your work
is a small price to pay when registering? That would weed them out?

Just a thought. Smile

They would just tweak the bots to add some random images during signup. Smile

I tweak the captcha code from time to time which stops them for a while, but they're good at learning the changes. If I had the time I'd try to replace the old phpBB system with a really good modern captcha.

But it's less work to delete and ban them.
