unless you really hate that nose and it's not what you wanted at all (there's a lot of variety in these things in the world) I'd say it's fine.
Rather good infact
Oh, I am a little worried about the apparent bulge on the jaw! looks like a cheek bone highlight that slid south

I really see a bit of Sigourney Weaver in your pic.. the jawline and the lips look quite like her
Critique:
1) The Texture for the beard looks cool but on the head (eyebrow level) it looks weird.
2) there should be a small part of the ear showing under the hairline I think.. but could be wrong on that
3) The eyelens is a bit too flat I think.
4) the lower troath part has an odd color tone compared to the rest.
Else the pic isn't far from being photorealistic
Terrific good work zor.. How did you do the shading?

Very nice, I like the face texture a lot. The nose is fine, just add the same texture to it as you did to the rest of the face. And as Muzman mentionned about his cheek, it does look as if he's chewing bubble gum or something. Also the bottom lip on the second picture, looks as if it's facing the wrong direction.

About the nose.. I'll try to explain what I mean in English even if it's not my main language.
Well.. you should move the end of the nostril (I hope it's called this way.. anyway I mean the flesh that's forming the hole in your nose) where it meets the flesh of the face a bit up. I don't know how to explain it in a better way.. email me if you want me to make an image of what I'm saying.

Here is something I sketched up really quick. I am assuming this is a male character. Males tend to have more planes in their facial structure. This helps differentiate the sexes. Females, softer, more rounds, males, chiselled, more planes.
Also, the nose needs the septum drawn in. This is the plane that divides the nostrils. It comes down and attaches to the face lower than the wings of the nostrils.
The cheek has a highlight where it should actually be shaded. this is under the zygomatic arch, or the cheek bone. The cheek bone protrudes, and is normally the widest point of the face. Since it protrudes, it will naturally cause some difference in tonality.
Another thing to remember is the lower lip lips out just before it attaches to the chin(no pun intended).
When drawing the head in profile, the entire shape of it should fit nicely into a square, unless you are working with character types.
And I also drwe blue angles to show the profile drop off of the facial features, and how they are normally parallel with one another. The corner of the mouth falls behind the nose, the lower lip falls behind the upper lip, falls behind the tip of the nose, etc.
Hope this all helps out, and good luck with the final piece. |
