I wanted this to be a different chain so I started new topic. I take absolutely no credit for the story or anything.. the idea came from reading the "Other Earth" Post SHAHAR2K posted .. please refer to that posting for background info.
I want to start some brainstorming concept art on this story .. so here is my
This is a member of the Inmortals Shahar mentioned. here is description Shahar gave:
"""There is a third faction, their origins are unknown, although their numbers have not changed in millennia, these are the immortals. sustained by a
network of interconnected nanobots, they cannot die, and their bodies cannot change, any change is perceived as a flaw by the sustaining nanobots and it is immediately repaired, many immortals have tried suicide in frustration, and many have died only to be revived. they are uninterested in humanity around them, oblivious to the problem apathetic to solution, only a select few of
them look at immortality as anything more than a hideous curse, they have also taken upon themselves the burden of recording history, so that someone will at least remember it's events correctly, however most do not share their knowledge with the mortals, and very few if any immortals have stayed within society not choosing to sleep for centuries or make another attempt at death. The Edenites cannot change them, and the Unity cannot assimilate them,
they are a side issue ignored by all.""
and....
""while they appear human in every respect their bodies are sustained forever by their condition (much like Anne Rice's vampires although without the blood and light problems) they have no extra powers, and any alteration to their body (tatoos, neural implants) are rejected almost imidiately by the nanovirus that inhibits them. There are probably about 10,000 of them world wide and the technology which sustains them cannot pass from person to person. they allso all seem to have originated from a single location in the northern american continent, many have lost their memories from a certain point in the past, and those who do remember their origins will not talk about it. ""
I figured since nanobots are not 100% perfect ..this one character's nanobots rejected his own hair. Also he is one of the ones the still travels around the few existing cities and records history .. he does not share it however .. he is greedy, almost seeing files of history as gold .. he carries digital scrolls therefore all the baggage ..
Remember this is just a concept for an idea, just a sketch of what "could be..."
As always if you wish to comment you are welcome.

Here is another "sketch" .. of what a "UNITY" etity could look like ..one of the shells .. that the minds from the vault can request to have ..
here is description by Shahar:
" this is a very interesting concept for me. It was created as a kind of government project once the virus was released to attempt to preserve human bodies untill a cure can be found, once an elite sociaty only solution to the chrisis, unity began to recruit it's own occupants once it became sentient. these ocupants are both free and bound, the unity itself is a huge entity that has come to being because of the unconcious thoughts of the residents, and has no controll over individuals, instead it manifests itself as the representation of the world once whithin the vault. Each individual in the flesh vault is physically bound to it, but conciously exists in a matrix like virtual world which is unity itself, andis afected by it's state (example: if unity becomes angry, the virtual world will experience turbulent weather) unity itself can be comunicated with but only rarely does it respond, it is mainly the monitoring entity of the virtual world, and grants the permissions for the use of the CCUs and robot shells (conciousness containment units) The CCUs are self sustaining (for a limited while) orbs with a camera and an interface which can connect to a veriaty of robotic shells. I have a 3D model of one of these robots, with CCU attached, and I will post a picture of it online soon."
So here it is :

Just like to remind everybody that this are quick sketches to explore what this entities shahar describes "could" look like ..
here is the third one EDENITE ..
Here is description by Shahar:
"Seeking to restore man kind to it's roots, they have, through meticulous genetic and micro engineering managed to restore, partially, people's ability to breed, however this does come with a cost, a hideous figure, and infinite physical variety leads the Edenites to appear in any one of thousands of mutated fleshy forms. Seeing themselves as superior to the dying masses, they relocate all of their "converts" to The Gardens (description of gardens: guarded place no one gets into or out of alive other than the Edenites, elaborate later.) With each additional convert, the Edenites get closer and closer to their goal of a pure and natural world, where mankind is it's own machine.
they engineer themselves to provide for any purpose once required by science."
there ya go .. so here is my interpretation:

well what I'm gonna do here is revert to my chritisizing self and compare (rather unfairly) your drawings to what's in my mind, so don't take this personally at all, the drawings are great
lets start with the Immortal:
This guy is great, the drawing and your description really give me a good sense of charecter with this guy, you could probably name him and give him a high role in most stories (hey this guy collects history, he might as well be the storyteller!).
not many of the immortals have found a purpose like this guy seems to though, and some of the immortals are not even aware of their condition since any destruction in the brain may cause an immortal to lose memory, but not their life.
I was wondering if you could do a portrait of a few more specific immortals, namely two charecters, one is an old man (he was old when he became immortal) who gave up on life, and has been sitting in a chair in an underground complex for half a millenia, because he couldn't find anything better to do. the other, is a girl, at age 16 or so who recently lost her memory but not completely. she is wondering the streets in the more slummy human areas (a whole scene, or just the girl will do) so basically the immortals aren't really a group they are just indiviguals with a condition, which originated at a certain point in time.
The Unity shell:
that actually gave me an idea, I've been meaning to redesign the CCU that I came up with originally because it is hard to design a shell around it, other than the original I made for it. the head (says ccu, I just noticed) for that robot with the underslung camera and the vents on top could be interesting to use as the repeating element. basically most robot shells have to be combined with a CCU to operate, except the ones that preform the most basic tasks (cleanup/maintenance)
Unity allso contains a virtual world, but that is actually something I want to stay away from depicting just now, as the matrix is too fresh in my mind, and I don't want that showing up
and finally the Edenite:
well, the first thing that came to my mind, is the clothing, they don't do that, they've got nothing to hide these aren't even people anymore, they are just cells in a giant organism(the garden). each one has a specific purpose, and might have some intelligence, but once one has been converted into the garrden there's no going back.
there is one central individual that controlls the garden, the fanatical leader, although I don't really have any mental picture of what he/she looks like, try to imagine a queen bee, where the whole hive has the singular purpose to care for that individual, who cannot care for themselves.
overall osk, this is awesome work, and a great start
p.s. I would have replied earlier, but I accidentaly erased all I wrote at one point and started over.

Hey thanks for all the feedback... I still cannot picture ..the Edenites... I mean I know what you are saying and all .. but .. I still cannot get a good picture of them. If they are just a big mass what is their purpose other than just laying there.. I mean if they want to engineer the human back so that it can breed .. the main brain needs workers, fighters, that can move right? ..so they have to have mobile parts like legs and things .. hmm I dont know..
I ll see if I can sketch out some of this other characters you mentioned .. realize these are just like brainstorming sketches fast .. and well sketchy .. until we can agree on some specifics .. |

yah I realize the edenites are hard subjects to visualize, especially since I'm not sure myself so my information may not be as consistent. the biggest deal is, that the edenites are a hive, they have no mind of their own, and they are controlled by the queen/king/monarch, which basically assigns them to their roles, so ... I guess think of a bee or ant colony but with a more liquid look (I think your design is very good actually, it would fit the point) but it's not just their people who are alive, everything in the garden is alive, so even the structure itself is living matter, and some of the static structures even contain intelligence to a limited degree.
again of corse this is a work in progress, so not too much is set in stone at the moment. |

no, it's not too complete, mostly because I don't understand the arm joints and it's 5:30 AM so the leg joints aren't much better
but this is coming along nicely, and should be done tomorow.

hey coming along well I see .. yeah the arm joints are all messed up on my sketch .. dont even look at them .. is a sketch on top of a sketch ..on top of a sketch from a different version of the same joint .. so it doesn't really match .. could not exist or make sense in real life .. or 3d for that matter .. you should change it to a regular rotating joint .. or something .. um also I am not gonna be able to make as many contributions as I thought before because I am currently doing some work for some other guys and I wanna dedicate my time to that for now ..I will still try to post whenever time allows .. is good that other people are posting some concepts though KEEP IT UP PEOPLE! .. keep them coming .. |

I couldn't make him look like I wanted .. this is the old guy ina chair u were talking about . but I dont like it I wanted to give it more depth to the surroundings .. but I am not good with backgrounds ... he dont look right to me overall .. he looks more like a slave than anything ... well
here he is
oh I forgot umm .. the scribles on that rock besides him are like a. profecy he is written , to him it is nothing but words . but , without him knowing . there is a cult of people that follow his writings .. and only visit him like once a year to honor him .. Of course he is not aware of any of this neither does he care ....

Hey there Sharar2k...I've been keeping track of your OE project so far. It sounds like a great idea. Here's what came to my mind when I first read about your CCU. Rather than having legs and arms and such, it was instead a kind of floating orb....well here, look at this. Keep in mind that I just enjoy sketching in blue and red, so ignore the color scheme.
Lemme know what you think...

I guess one of my old music tracks would fit the mood too (its an old one, so don't kill me for errors and sample quality )

Hey Golongria :thats a good concept except .. that these shells .. they go into .. need to do things , perform tasks ...that would require arms, therefore a body, therefore legs .. so there could still be a CCU like the one u did but it would probably only be used for like exploring and things ....I still think a mech like figure would fit better AND protect the entity inside it better in case of a hostile attack on a CCU .. |

osk, I was wondering if you could contact me through ICQ my computer is on almost 24 hours a day, as it is, but Outlook just slows down all my modeling stuff, so icq would be a whole lot better for me, if it isn't for you then E-mail or the forum work fine.
allso, the CCU and the shell are two seprate parts, the CCU has the inelligence and power source, while the shell is just the functional part like a head to a body, so a CCU dosn't need to preform any task, it just needs to be attached to a shell which is then does the important stuff

Cool idea, have you thought of making a videogame or comic out of this idea? Anyways I would like to a city( maybe a ruined city). What kind of weapons do each 'race' have? |

*clears throat*
minor announcement,
there might not be many more updates to Other Earth for quite a while.
mostly due to the fact, that I'll be gone for the summer(winter for you with a more southernly look on life), with minimal internet access.
but the good news are, that I think there might be a website up by the time I leave.
however I might not be able to provide a complete plot as I've promised, because the very concept of Other Earth is currently changing and adapting, becoming better(hopefully) infact, I've finally come up with a coherant timeline for the events in Other Earth (yes, osk, that chat was the first time I EVER made up a complete history part of which (the known part) will be put up, as well as descriptions and known histories of the three factions.
behind the scenes, I have come up with an almost complete history for the three factions, as well as several pivotal charecters to be used for a game based on Other Earth, I am allso looking for programmers, experienced people and webspace (oh my!) but I do not yet have a coharent team structure, so no promises.
Well that's it for now, special thanks to Osk, and Huricane, for listening to my mindless dribble on ICQ, and everyone else who E-mailed me, ofcorse everyone is welcome to contact me through ICQ (UIN 7001326) or E-mail (shahar@earthlink.net)and though I am more likely to respond to ICQ than E-mail, I will try to respond to anyone who wishes to talk.
in other news, it has been a whole day allready, and being 19 isn't that much diffrent from being 18
