I like Dreamweaver the best. If I knew html better I would use ColdFusion though. |

I posted to repeat Chapel.
Except, Dreamweaver pretty much does the job of ColdFusion for you. Believe me.

hey dreamwevaer ultadev SUX!!! :-) hehe just use V3.0 ultradev is kinda useless.
but dreamweaver kicks ass over frontpage. notepad kicks dreamweaver and frontpage if your an insane programer. i use dreamweaver.
it has some limitations.. i wish it had better site management.
but for the average user it kicks over both FP and NP .

Type all the code out yourself like I do. It's more fun that way
And you have more control over the outcome of your page.

Homesite, but notepad comes close. If you want to design webpages, please learn. If you want a personal gallery for your graphics, then go with the WYSIWYGs |

Dreamweaver 3.1 hands down. Tough youll need to edit some code manually - dreamweaver does some weird shit now & then. |

then there's ultradev with it's code cleaning shit.
if you want to design webpages, do it by hand. if you want to design webpages in a fraction of the time it'd take with notepad or whatever, go for dreamweaver.
if you know html basics, and know what to do and what to not to do, you just can't fuck up with Dreamweaver.

"Word" as in Yo Niggah, Word Up Bro!
Not as in Use Word To Write HTML.
Just thought to make that clear. |

Dreamweaver has the ColdFusion extensions, but it isn't ColdFusion. If you want to develope sites for large corporations then you need to learn html and ColdFusion. As far as using Notepad.. that is like using MS Paint instead of Photoshop. Sure it works, but what the hell are you using it for? |

True, but if you make a masterpiece of art in MS Paint, isn't it more of a personal accomplishment? I feel better after I coded all of it in notepad then using a program that you just answer questions and it fills in the blanks (sort of speak)
Plus understanding the code is a whole lot easier by using notepad, I don't even see code anymore, it is the page itself, that is how used to Notepad I am. |

I have to agree with Spitfire: use both dreamweaver and then edit with a texteditor like UltraEdit. Go see the code for this site http://www.jtv.nl (I did the layout in dreamweaver and the cleaning and almost all of the java scripting in a texteditor).
But hey, use whatever you like but keep testing after every line of code you produce! (Netscape and IE)
Erm, another tip dont tile!

I am a loner Chapel, meaning I don't have many people around that do HTML coding or programming. My college doesn't have a Coldfusion class yet, not till next year anyway (after I graduate), and I don't have the money. I want to learn that, I see a lot of people are wanting that skill. I just can't grab any resources to learn that right now. |

I will learn DW and Coldfusion, cause my job demands it, But the thing I don't like about WYSIWYG editors is compatibility for future expansions in HTML and soon XML. You gotta wait for an update or patch for those programs to include those new things being brought out, other then notepad, you just have to have the correct browser to intepret those code symbols and you are learning it right away instead of waiting for a patch or update. I know that might not be with XML and DW, etc., but for later advancments this is a issue (how many versions of frontpage are there? ) and how many versions of notepad? LOL...Just a thought.

Hmm? How can one use FrontPage and Notepad at the same time? I mean if you look at FrontPage HTML code in Notepad, all you see is spaghetti. |

Fireworks is supposed to be used in conjunction with Dreamweaver. Fireworks is one of the best (if not the best IMHO) image optimizing programs/slicers on the market. The code that it writes for tables is very clean.
And to stay on the topic, as far as HTML editors go (not WYSIWYG) I use Allaire's HomeSite when I have to go in and correct stuff manually. Otherwise it's Dreamweaver all the way for me.

U people never heard of Arachnophilia? neat NOTEPAD based editor, with many many features for newbies (like has a button for making tables if u dont wanna type it out yerself and stuff like that). It also has an internal browser that lets u preview the webpage.
P.S.
when I look at HTML, i see dead people.
P.S.S.
I've been using DREAMWEAVER ULTRADEV latly, cause I'm gonna get a job in Web Dev. soon and it requires dreamweaver skill0r3rz (also notepad).. I'm started to understand most of the code now but its still usually hard for me to picture the webpage just from code or whatever.
