I thought I'd give a quick reply, seeing as you're probably getting frustrated, at the lack of them.

The image is really muddy. I think that there should be more distinction between shapes. eg, the horns seem to blend into the wall, the space below the counter, seems to blend into the top counter at some points, etc .. it looks as if you've been using the smudge tool a lot. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My 2 cents

- Steve

nope no smudge tool, i was using the paintbrush in Painter. There is a lot of layerng of color and low opacity strokes, so that is probably why it seems so.

I see what you mean about the lower part of that tool bench.i completely missed that part and just noticed it again after you mentioned it. i think that part is the area that would need retouching, and refining.

I primarilly was going for more overall content and meaning, as well as playing with lighting and seeing if i could do it.

thanks for the response man.

Intrepetations ...

Let me light up a ciggarette and tell you what i see in that picture you drew.

I see a man .. in his 30s. A sick man, plagued with many horrible visions.
This man also has a hobby, Hunting. But he hunts not for the sport, but for the pleasure of takin away life.

To make a long story short, he hates his grandma, so he shoots her and stuck her in that there glass-case.

that is a grandma! i thought it was a poor little boy with a very bad haircut. The mooses head really stands out because its quite a bit sharper then the rest of the drawing.. sort of freaky. the table could use some sharpening up. and add some more stuff, its a garage fer cryin out loud...

Nice pic, Moose! I like atmosphere, for instance. It's quite gloomy or something.. Hmm.. details.. the revolver looks good. I agree that smudgy thing came up... this one could seem better if it had sharper.. I think that perspective is a bit off.. okay. Those are my opinions.. it's good though.

It seems like you've outlined a lot of your objects with a black line - the corners of the bench, some of the weapons, etc. This doesn't go too well with the painterly feel you've got going on, and it might be contributing to the muddiness.

Ok, thaks for all the technical advice (i appreciate it, but this is my style. the black lines aer there because it is how i handle some objects), but can youall look deeper at it now and give me interpertations of meanings too? I am always very interested on how people interpret my work, so if you all could give me what you think this peice means, that would be cool. thanks. moose

Lets see...
you have three main elemenets to your composition, and judging from the lightest area, you want us to read from left to right, but as we do the guns are pointing away to the left, not to the person locked up. So the guns are not ment as something menacing, but instead they are there as tools, put up after being used.
We have the deer trophy and it's pretty close to the gun case, which holds a person, looks like an old person too.
hmmmmm...
It reads to me that someone has given up or failed at something. The cabnet is locked and the person's head is down in dissapointment or maybe he's dead?
The gun on the cabnet with shells doesn't read as much. Maybe the red in the toolbox means blood, so thier might be relation to the shells and the rifle.
so after all that babble, lets see what we have here...
first idea of the image:
Someone is hunting more than animals
second idea:
Someone has given up on something or someone and wishes to only remember them as dead.
Third idea.
Something horrible has gone on here.
Fourth idea.
this dude shot himself and somehow locked himself in the cabnet.
Fifth idea.
this guy's a gun maker and he said, "oh the hell with it, i'm gonna drink a case of beer and lock myself in my cabnet"..hehehe

I can see what you're trying to do, you making us ask questions but your true meaning is too vague. It's good to have mystery but sometimes that mystery can be too deap and it clouds the whole image and makes us frustrated and we disreguard the picture.
I'm glad to see someone who is thinking of what story the image can tell, instead of what technique can make it better. Now if we can get you into thinking more on composition you'll be ready for techniques.
have fun.
sorry for the spelling errors

I agree with you about learning about composititon, i have never really touched upon it. I do remember there were some topics here that covered it. Do you know of the actual one so i could read up some?

The meaning i was going for was that guns are tools, but items that kill living things (the deer head) but rather people are the ones responsible for killing and need to be "locked in gun cabinets." It goes on the topic of "Human Control" rather than "Gun Control."

thanks for your thoughts samdragon, your ideas where real original. I asked my friend what he thought it meant, and he got that "This dad was so proud of his guns that he locked his kids up inthe cabinets so they couldnt touch them..." and the dude was completely serious too...haha. but nevertheless it does get people to think. and thats what i like to do - have people use their brain instead of saying "oh thats pretty" or "damn thats good."

thanks again guys
