Hi! Welcome to the Sijun.com community!

I asked this question myself when I first came to these forums. Truth is most people are sick of telling "Newbie's" how to start. Well I'm a newbie too. So I will help you as much as possible...

Have you seen Dhabih's (Owner of Sijun.com) tutorial? check it out before you go to the forums section of this website. Also you will find answers to this and many of your questions in the F.A.Q. accessible while in the forums.

Ok, well If you can't make sense of it from there here are a few links I have compiled from my short experience in digital illustration. They go from most useful to the least. (in my opinion anyway)

  1. http://www.3dpalette.org/features/armory/
  2. http://www.katode.org/noguchi/web/tut_goblin1.htm
  3. http://www.ninjapowers.com/tutorials.shtml
  4. http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/farp/

Secondly here are two Pro artists, that should help inspire you and also have useful information.

  1. http://www.goodbrush.com/ Craig Mullins
  2. http://www.planetshane.com/ Shane Caudle

I hope this helps. Remember first to check out the F.A.Q for any other questions.

drawing digitally is realy no different than drawing with real media.
IF you are having troubles using a tablet, then you should concentrate more on using a real pencil or brush.

It takes alot of practice, it's not something you do on a saturday and forget about all weeklong.
Ask as many questions as you can and learn as much as you can. Read books on drawing, do tutorials that are on the web.
The technology is much easier now a days than it used to be. So the learning curve of going from traditional media to digital is much lower.
It all boils down to the basics, spend as much time as you can learning the basics, color theory, how light works, perspective, linework, shading etc. Spend your money on books and classes instead of software, you'll be better off in the long run.
