Hey guys, stop picking on him. He might actually be the hero of his village. I mean, he actually learned how to post messages on the internet--that's kind of impressive, right? |

10ten: This is an art forum. The main purpose is to share art and, in this particular section, discuss issues relating to art. The prior section it existed in was even less correct.
Going, basically, "Someone do some artwork for my personal benifit and with out pay other than a thank you from a nameless nickname," does not get you artwork. And while this does not exactly qualify as being a command, it comes across as being one. If your boss comes up and asks you to draw something, then gives you some rather exacting specifications of what that activity is to produce, that's not called a request, that's an order thinly veiled with politeness. To make it worse, the way it's worded, you've made the command out to everyone on the forum.
Here's a slightly more proper way of doing this message. Post your OWN work of this character, give some background on the character (something more than the basic stats) and say something like this afterwards.
"Anyone else who has a take on this character, I'd love to see it, or any other D&D type artwork." Perhaps mention something about looking for further reference material to help your OWN peice. Worse case, you'll get no responses, but at least you wouldn't of made a fool of yourself. A little less worse, you might of gotten some possitive criticism on your work, and possibly some links to artists who have done D&D style artwork. You may have even gotten artwork which you could use to cut and paste together your own character, or by chance one of the other artists might of been intrigued by the subject matter and actually drawn exactly what you wanted, or at least something close.
A good example of this done right, with even less words, is loki's green monkey thread. That started an amazing line of green monkeys. |

BiGJoN: It used to be on the Summoner site. The audio version can be found on the...damnit I can't remember the name now. Was it the Dead Ale Wives Club or something messed up like that?
Oh and CyberArtist: Green Monkey thread might not be a good example afterall, considering how it actually started. Very funny backstory though.
