Hi! I am thedumbkid or TDK for short. Most of you still don't know me but I love looking at you people's artwork. Especially humans, I love pictures of men, women, everything!
here's my try... been studying for a little bit

And here's my first attempt: -= First Try =-
Also one thing... I find the eyes very hard to do... I mean I might have an okay looking face line work but it's quite hard to draw the right eyes... at least for me
maybe not enough observation still but I was wondering how you people do yours?

It does'nt look too bad. The proportions are ok, but the nose is too long unless you want it to look like Pete Townshend from the Who.
Many of the shapes are also misleading and flat.
If you have'nt drawn too many faces
before i would suggest like Shardik said and
draw from life qand maybe check some books about the subject. Another good thing could maube be that you draw a thumbnails of heads on a couple of sheets of paper while sitting in front of the mirror or drawing your friends or family.
Hope this can help.

Hey TDK,
I really don't like that nic, I can't stand for someone to run themselves down. Just my ramblings, anyway about the eyes.

When I began portraits the eyes were the hardest of me as well, so much so that I started drawing only eyes for a very long time.

I believe most people go about eyes the wrong way, and I mean by starting with lines, usually dark lines.

The eyes, and the whole face for that matter, have no lines in them. The entire face is nothing more than a series of highlights and shadows.

Try to think of this next time you draw eyes...Imagine the eyes as marbles with skin flaps stretched over them. Imagin the marble underneath the skin and how the skin would still show some of the marble's shape. I hope this helps. You could also get some clay, make a ball and then make some eyelid flaps to put over them, it would help you see the shading anyway.
Also, try and get Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. It teaches portraits very well and shows some very common mistakes.

I wish I could be just like you, so I could be friends with me....
