my ONLY gripes with the new solaris are the tiny little facts that they skipped most of the plot, the acting is horrid (well, whats there to act, just put a :| face on) and sleep is less boring than the result..

Yes, new Solaris concentrated in different aspects of the story than the original story or Tarkovsky's Solaris I suppose. What comes to boringness and bad acting I can't agree with you at all. I just have a totally different opinion.

I guess the new Solaris will be a disappointment for those who'd like to rather see a scifi movie.

They did the mistake of advertising Solaris as a "Sci-Fi Thriller" here in Iceland. A lot of confused people left that movie Smile

if i want to see solaris, i expect the movie called solaris to be _solaris_ and nothing else. especially when they say it's based on lem's book. it's that simple. *stab*

*** off topic ***

seen solaris two days ago.
some facts:
i love the book, actually i love almost anything lem has ever written.
i really like tarkovskys version.
i hate steven soderbergh.
i don't like george clooney.

i knew in advance that soderbergh would by no means be able to handle such a complex topic. i expected nothing. i got even less. his solaris - in my opinion - is clearly one of the worst science fiction movies ever filmed.
it's boring. it's repetitive. it's dumb.
obviously he tried to turn it into some kind of love story, but didn't accomplish even that :/
clooney is acting like he doesn't know anything about his character at all, the soundtrack is not worth mentioning(nothing new here), and soderbergh managed to cut out every single interesting part of the book, which results in a stupid movie lacking all the depth of lems book while offering absolutely nothing for compensation.

so in the end it's nothing more than one of those movies that could've been among the best ever, but were fucked up by the director, storywriter or actors(in this case all of them).

Am I the only one who actually liked the movie? Very Happy Original Solaris was already done by Tarkovsky. It didn't bother me at all that this was different. It was a bold thing to make this kind of version of so famous book and after Tarkovsky's master piece.
A term love story brings in my mind totally different vibes than the movie.

How about the soundtrack, did you guys like it any more than the rest of the movie?

Although the soundtracks themselves are not interesting as a whole there are several themes I love.

Robocop - original movie
Rambo
Army of Darkness
Crimson Tide/Rock - the theme Hanz Zimmermann recycles over and over again.
Batman

Requiem for a Dream. Yes. After seeing that movie hearing the theme always gives you shivers.

I hated two towers, and I hated it even more after I saw that trailer ...
