Here's something really depressing--I got this e-mail a month back, from someone who'd been to gorblimey.com, browsed around a little, seemed to like it. Said I was their favourite artist, in fact. Except, here's the kicker: they said their favourite picture by me was the one I posted in THIS thread, of the woman in Mickey Mouse ears and Victorian clothing.
That...wasn't...me.

Socar - Kind of tough to hear something like that, I guess it was spooge who made that one. I read something about that you had some un-inspried moment right now.
I am also feeling un-inspired as it is right now and I have come to the conclusion that you more I learn the more I suck, have anyone of you in here felt that too?
For eg, yesterday I was outside and made some observation sketches and I have read about that when drawing something you have to look for the brightest tones of value and decide where to put those as white on the paper. Also decide where the halftone and cast shadow should be in advance so the sketch dont feel flat.
Anyway, when I made my sketch I got lost somewhere in all those trees foliage and noticed that I simplified too much and all of a sudden my sketch sucked, maan, am I simplyfing too much? Maybe I should go for more long time sketches and work?
Well, as you hear I have to find a new style and also nail down the anatomy once and for all.

You bet!

Btw I think I read that you should make the image work in halftones first and add darkest shadows and highlights later! Is that wrong ? _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org

well done all of you!
Omi kun, thanks, the shots of gladiator that you spoke about are not actually shots of gladiator, everything is constructued by me, I was just inspired by the movie. If you have the will to paint with 100 % opaqueness, thats great, because it really helps you to recogize colors and values. It's very good for training, but hardly effective to do full rendering, that is if you want your rendering to have many values.
I think this samurai story is turning into a story about myself...although I don't exactly do what that guy does...
here is the scribble for the painting

pierre. OH MY GOD!!!! this one rocks...i really like the way you render volume. BTW highlight, horse anatomy and colors kick some serious ass. I feel small, a dwarf, a hobbit or something. |

I am still having that problem, but I am drawing more to make it go away. I'm drawing happy pictures to improve my mood.
...I wonder why she's smiling....

yeah matt - I feel that way about almost everything I do. It's hard relizing you don't have the information to really nail somthing where a clavical will end up, or what shade will cast over a green feild. Try working from life? - water colors? I feel like I don't have a clue about color and light, and my knowlege of compostion is really just nill.
Well I'm keeping at it, can't exactly learn it in a day. One thing, really imagine it in your head, get a strong image of the picture, imagine it was somthing you'd seen, general pose/comp, how the light falls over it, and color spills into the scene. You see what you do/don't know, what you aren't inlcuding in your inital plans I'd ove to hear some educated (as in accomplished) opinions, it feels right, but maybe there's somthng I'm missing
and after all that, here's a quickie [crappy ] full opacity from life, sunset on bedsheets
Farley
opps that took a while! HPX - great, lovely to see a timeline as well. Yeah I'm almost at 1, almost
peirre - well just amazing love to hear what goes through your head
Andy - that's solid, shading on the arm is kinda odd. _________________ A bit more practice perhaps

Ouch, spooge...blarr, I guess the general art viewer is very confused.
Hey, hpx--stupid ?--what exactly does that "dual brush" thing in PS7 do? I tried using it a couple of times, but I couldn't quite figure out what it was doing. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

spooge: practice ad infinitum, gotcha! will do
pierre: it sure does, my painting speed went from four hours to half when I do that (it looks very bad, but at least the colors are close). And I guess you do what spooge do for such realistic colors?
AndyT: good job, you've aspired me to paint what's on my desktop
so here it is, 20 min:

I haven't done any art in countless months. It's like remembering how to ride a bike...after your leg muscles have gone into atrophy. Sure I remember how to pedal, but I my legs don't work.
Meanwhile you people have apparently been taking steroids or something. _________________ - Gimbal

pierre: pretty amazing effort there. But the left dude's left hand looks like an oversized right-hand, and the tail of the horse on the right confuses the image (prefer to see more of the other horse's head).
But nice. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Since some pages out of time, again, such great amount of great art, unbelievable.
Wassup, this is absolute great, especially the Background-Rider got my attention:
http://mitglied.lycos.de/hoopssoul/workstemp/samurai061.jpg
Pierre, Your Samurai-Picture is cool too(great lightning, first thougt "Mullins"). Well, i made an Samurai-Thread some time ago, after the first some Samurai-Pieces appear these days - would like if all the people around would show their work there, to get an overall-samurai-view.
Capt.Fred, like your landscapes - your paintings-style works in a way cool there as always.
DSedov, like your ones.
See, cool Char!
and, Spooge, your work is great, no question, but i miss the point in those last ones - nothing really there but good values.
Here is one speedier painting i did for an ArtBattle(speedier, caused by no time ).
