Hello all,
I've been lurking for a few days, and wanted to get a post under my belt. Once upon a time I spent a decent amount of time working on digital art, but I sort of lost touch (for nearly a decade).
After stumbling across Mullins' site, I was inspired to pick up the stylus again. Below is my first painting done in Photoshop (I'm partial to Painter), and the ref photo I used as well.
Critiques welcomed!
Ref:
She's developed a bit of a chin in my version :) |

Hello "markf"!
If this is ur first one in Photoshop I think uve done pretty well.I wonder who has inspired u most Mullins or the girl!!
Comments wanted:
Her eyes need some moore attension. I think they are too wide open - look at her iris, the eyelid cuts it a tiny bit over halfways....and her eyes are blue not brown. Her mouth is coulored to much in orange - hers are more light purple. Its also turned to much straight against us. The tone of her skin seems a bit coold, should have moore of warmth in it, I think! Hope this will help u!! _________________ Art has no key - it can always be improved. Therefor your work can never be finished. Take it as a challenge! |

Hi Bobuke,
Thanks for the comments! I will hopefully have a chance to rework this picture later today. I'll post the results if I do.
I feel like I must be colour blind, but how can you tell that her eyes are blue and not brown? :)
Thanks again! |

Hi Bobuke. I disappeared for a while there -- thanks for your colour analysis. Interesting. I've been painting more often since the original post, but I've never gone back to fix up the Saami woman. Perhaps down the road at some point.
For now, here are two quickies from the last couple days. These have noting to do wtih a Saami woman :) I had a picture ref for the face, but the other thing is just a stapler sitting on my desk, covered witha piece of cloth.
Anyway, I feel like I'm making some progress; thought I'd post something more for crits and comments. |
