Very nice work everyone. This must be the absolutely best thread to be inspired from around.
Frost I really liked that mouse of yours.
Flushgarden awesome clouds
Zlu your images has so much atmosphere. scary.
Isric -great style
Don't know if this one counts as speed paint, but as Frost said. Don't know where else to put it.
Somewhere between 1 and 2 hours.

Painting school starts for me tomorrow, kind of nervous actually but it is gonna be cool.
Made this one with ref, tried to use it wisely.

Matthew: First of all, thanks alot! Yeah, it's him!
Second of all, totally sweet portrait! Proportions looks perfekt, and so does the shading/highlighting...
Just have to say to Capt.Flushie and Spooge: Watch out for him...
Good luck in school tomorrow! Keep 'em coming!
As a matter of fact, let's all keep 'em coming! _________________ It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice!

One of your best, Matthew. Bigger brushes still! Bigger brushes! You're getting away from the noodling, but push yourself further. It'll likely feel uncomfortable, but force it. Big flat shapes.
Mark: great as usual! |

matthew shit that was very good!!! as kimchi said, bigger brushes, and small ones only where they are needed, you got it though, small brushes where the small hairs go out of the siulouette and the face in general, very good!! |

This thread is incredible. Lots of inspiration. Haven't been able to post for ages... but had to re-re-re-re-register (another new nic ) to respond to Mr. Mark Harris --- hey, no worries, I'm a fan of your work...
Great minds must think alike... I did this one for another speedpaint thread I think...what... a year ago? umm...I didn't take as much time as you...it shows...I like yours better.
Cracks me up These two guys should get together....

been meaning to post something in here for some time but you know how it goes... this one took a wee bit longer than an hour. after trying to do things straight out of my head for the longest time i decided it would be smart to use reference until i feel more comfortable without. makes sense. (yes, the would be straight lines are all wonky and the perspecive is off and all that but i suppose this is more of a color study or something. Or maybe thats just my lame excuse. anywho....)
next one will be better |

Mangesan, see, kimchi, Capt.Flushgarden, Max Kulich, Capt.Fred I hope I didnt forget anyone, Thank you very much guys I really appreciate your comments, thank you. :)
The irony is that when I started in painting school today we didnt paint, everything was introduction and all.
It seems like we are gonna have life-drawing once a week for a whole day. I am really looking forward to those and also to the sketching lessons and I hope I can post something later this week or next week, we will see. :)
I made another picture for you guys who commented my last one, sorry about the small brush tecnique, I had already made this one when I read through you tips Capt.Flush and Kimchi, I will see what I can do for my next post. :)
Edit - oh yeah, ref for this one too, I got too tired with this one thou and yeah Matthew is too confused with his new situation and all ..hehe
btw did I mention that I am doing 6 bus/train changes a day to get to and home from school ..huuuu

Amazing Matthew, you've improved to a tremendous degree. Like Flushy said, define areas with bigger areas of value and shape. Really think about the form of what you're creating! I notice some underlying soft brush usage, which should only come as an FX after the basic structure's laid out... Here's today's...
