We had a discussion a while back about CDRW disks and USB harddrives for backup files etc...
For the last 1.5 years I've been using a USB flash memory stick for file backup and transporting files to the printer. I got tired of the CDRW route.
Since I think I'm getting a digital camera that uses Compact Flash cards. I got a few cards and a reader now since my USB 512 was full. I dont use massive storage, all my autocad files from 2005, 2006, 2007 are on the one 512 stick.
So the question is how long do these CF cards last?
Also Staples has a sale on them this week 1gb SanDisk $15.00 |

100,000 writes apparently.. i've been using SanDisk for the past 2 years (approx 90,000 photos on 1 camera, 35,000 on the other) and never had any trouble with them (i use SanDisk Ultra II) have various size of cards ranging from 512MB-2GB |

Flash memory is practically indestructible. I've read that you can soak them in soda overnight and they'll still work. They're resistant to extreme temperature, humidity, etc. I'm pretty sure you can drop them from an airplane and they'll still work. No moving parts to wear out, either.
I know bob already answered your question, just an interesting aside. :D _________________ QED, sort of. |
