Predator was ok if u ask me. Nothing special but a few nice scenes. Especially liked the sword scene. The moody setting and the determination with which he fought was a powerful mix. The second half of the movie was more of a gorefest. (a good one)
Inception was ok and intriguing but not very exciting. Smart script sure but didn't do anything for me. If I want something smart i'll read a book I want something that's exciting! If u add to much layers to little time will be spent on characters development etc. One scene moved me and it was "SPOILER SPOILER"
What he had done to his wife to get her out of the dream world that then backfired. |

I think Inception relied too much on convolution to have the "smart script" effect. Somehow Kubrick and Lynch pull the same thing off with much less.
Still awesome movie though. |

The american was ok. No action extravaganza. More drama. But it missed something. Some deeper emotional/plot layer to make it more interesting. |

Saw "Expendables" last week but it wasn't that good, I bet Stallone wanted to make it like those action movies from the 80s but in the end one would assume that you would add some modern filming to it. I liked the scene where they turned around the plane and started to shoot though, lol I guess I am easily entertained these days hah.
Anyone of you that has seen "True Legend? I liked it, reminded me some of crouching tiger for some reason.
However "Legend of the red dragon" still holds as a favourite for me when it comes to ninja, samurai fighting movie. Not so much a new movie though, was it early 90s?

Ok dont know if any of you guys have seen this but I saw stalker and it blew my mind. Definitely one of my favourite movies of all time its certainly got that enigmatic Russian feel, shot in the hight of the USSR nothing else compares imo. Magic!
Godzilla you seen lone wolf and cub? (the first one), great samurai film for sure. _________________ www.tenglandsketchbook.blogspot.com

T_England, I haven't actually, I assume you mean the version from the 70s? Could only find this on youtube, looks pretty cool though. Reminds me of "Afro Samurai" lol, guess that makes it pretty clear where they got their influences from.:

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was pretty good, especially the fight scenes. the ending's annoying. the only thing i hate is the way characters die. |

I didn't see Lady in the Water or The Happening, but I can't imagine they're worse than Airbender. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

You know, "The Happening" was pretty ok. I saw it a couple of times and some scenes sure were corny but the idea in the happening spoke to me. Read somewhere that atoms and molecules react to Dna being present, thought that kind of applied. Not exactly what the story is about but more of humans being present in a certain surrounding and things starting to happen... Hmm.
Lady in the water was terrible though lol...

Jonah Hex 2010, just saw Jonah Hex and I sure as hell had to see it knowing that I was a big fan of the comic as a youngster back in the early 80s. I think he was more macho in the comic though and they couldn't capture that, I was hoping for Clint Eastwood in the role as Jonah; that should have been back in the 80s though lol.
The movie was pretty ok anyway.

I thought the last airbender was ok. The story wasn't the best but the atmosphere in the movie and the effects were great. Liked it more than the last pirates of caribean movie at least.
I'd give it a 3 out of 5. See it as a beautiful piece of art if nothing else. This kind of movies is what the cinema if for. Dramas and thrillers you can watch on the tellie. But I guess people who are looking for a movie where Shyamalan is in top form will be dissapointed.
And another tips while am at it. Check out the serie black adder with Rowan Atkinson from the eighties. They're showing reruns on the tv and I'm completly hooked. It's Richard Curtis who is the writer. Four weddings and a funeral/notting hill etc. |

Saw the movie RED (retired and extremely dangerous).
Started of very good then mediocroty. Guess the hard part is to make a whole complete movie that connects all the dots. But it was worth a watch.
Saw two sam peckinpah movies. Killer elite and pat garett and billy the kid and I really like his style. So raw and graphic it doesn't back of.
One scene in Pat Garett where a guy gets wounded after a gunfight and goes away to die with his wife fallowing him was a tearjerker. |

I just saw a German movie called "Cargo", a sci fi movie set into the future, I can really recommend it, it was pretty good.

recently watched "Cargo".. love this.. reminds me of Kubrick "Solaris"
like the design, idea .. technically it can done a bit more but I suppose the budget is limited..
Hollywood would learn from this how to make a script instead of spending 90% of budget on visual effects lol
it gets me excited to think about what can be done with limited budget to make a scifi movie..a lot can be done with compositing, 3d etc.
indie rocks! |

"Legend of the Guardians"
a movie for children.. yeaah
under watch time, I focused a lot on looking on 3d things, VFX etc.. technical animation is pretty good.. to see how the fur moves, it blows my mind.. it must require powerful rendering farm to take all load :p I noticed that the production had large team of VFX artists, not surprising. 3d industry has developed further really.
idea, executing.. no comments on this.. well, this means "gasp"
it is the lord of rings for children |

Cargo was really awesome because of the build up aswell, you couldn't really guess the manuscript.
I like movies like that.
Legend of the guardians, haven't seen it actually, gonna look up some trailers.
durgldeep, the new Transformers actually looks promising, I hope they will make a better manuscript this time. The whole concept of robots should and could work very good. The first one was awesome in the first half and then it became too much. Ah well better wait for the release to dvd.

Have you guys seen "Despicable me"? Well I saw it two times, haha it was hilarious. Gotta love those minions as they called them in the movie, haha they even had their own language. lol.

QD, no worries about the commercial, I never hit YouTube until my volume is turned off, hehe (if it's a commercial, go elsewhere and come back when the movie's loaded). My solution to Google's pimpware.
I haven't seen Despicable Me. Hmmmm... I like the idea of a 'bad guy' in the lead role (fresh idea(?)).
Transformers... had to go look at the wiki article (again), for the second one; the critics didn't pull any bunches:
"It was nominated for 7 Razzie Awards... winning three in the Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay categories at the 30th Golden Raspberry Awards."

durgldeep, I heard the director or hmm.. someone of them speak about the "Revenge of the fallen", apparently it was during the writers strike and they made a movie without writers, perhaps not the best idea..... lol.
I think the desert scene in the second one was pretty bad overall. Better intro in that one aswell.
I am hoping for more unique ideas in the 3rd one, looks really sweet if one look at the trailer. |
