Hi, I'm kinda stuck on this portrait of an african women (no refrence used).
It look as if it has good potential, but on the other hand something is not right, especialy with the rendering I think.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to get this going.
btw, I've been using a regular chalk brush for this.

Pretty good for no reference. Smile

Re getting it going, I'd say just go go go. 'Push the pencil' (brush)... Maybe do
some variations, etc. - see here:

"September Sijun Theme: THUMBNAILS"
http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=43307

If you don't like using reference, maybe look at images of other angles, ie. get a
sense of volume/proportion for various parts of the face/head/ears/hair - or
maybe you just want the 'mask' part.

Hope to see more. Smile

Put some color somewhere in there, to give yourself a new feel for her.

Also flip the image horizontally, it is a cheap old trick but it is very effective in forcing you to see it in a new way and any problems you might have missed.

Block in the head shape, then feature placement on that structure, then individual features. Big--->Small Very Happy
