Your pic is a good start, but it's quite unbalanced: theres a large contrast between the sharp and blurry areas... In a matter of taste, I think she looks a bit on the chubby side.

first of all, define the outline of the hair.. use a smaller, definite edge brush with the airbrush tool. The hair has too much of a "halo" to it. And the right eye (left as in from her POV, not yours) looks different from the right... you need to fix the outer corner of her left eye to make it seem identical to the outside corner of her right eye. Define her eyebrows more.. her right brow is lost between being an eyebrow and being a shadow. And fix the right corner of her mouth... it just looks wierd. And remember, I'm critical because you asked me to be, and I'm just trying to help you improve your pic ; i'm not trying to be a dick or anything. Otherwise, bloody good work, Jander. Keep it up.. I can't wait to see the finished piece.

I don't mean to sound overly critical, but I'm hoping that is what you are looking for..

The hair. The hair is too "restricted", you have to "free yourself" (i know that sounds lame) when you draw, especially with hair. No offence, but it looks like she has plastic hair that wouldn't move if a tornado picked her up and through her a couple hundred feet. Hair flows naturally, therefore, so should your brush strokes. Let the hair go all over the place, it looks much more realistic that way.

When you start a painting, start with an open mind, not with what you THINK someting should look like. Let it take shape as you go. At least, that's what I feel works best.

Sorry if I offended you, but I was hoping it would help.

eye : much better
lip : better but still not QUITE perfect (so sue me, I'm anal)
hair : MUCH MUCH better. not as much glow. the problem is that the hair loooks too rigid. This means it doesn't flow naturally. With such a close brushed hairstyle, it naturally follows the contours of her head and face. If this is true, she has a lump on the top of her head on the right side. And the hair rests uneasily on her left side... it should be flush against her skin, not floating off into space.

Looking good, though.

woops, forgot.
eyebrow : much better. perfect even. It's now clearly an eyebrow, and not confused with being a shadow, too. Looks good.
