You won? Congratulations

Anyway, if you want my critique, there are good elements here, but they don't really come together - the whole has a bit of a collage feel, like they were paper cutouts pasted together. The lion looks good individually, the water looks good individually, but their intersection doesn't look realistic... You could try just having more shadow on the lion's outlines, and it could also help to have some more blue-grey tones on the lion, to give the impression of diffuse light from the water. These are just some simple solutions, they wouldn't make it perfect but might at least help a bit.

There's a similar thing with the grass and rocks, but the grass also seems to have a perspective problem - the texture on it is too flat and uniform, it disturbs the depth effect here.

I hope you don't mind my criticism (I know, I could have given it in person, pretty stupid to post here )... I like it overall, there's nice colors, but I just wanted to mention those few problems so you can try to avoid them in the future.

Congratulations as well!

If you would like to work on this further, I would suggest the following:

 water needs a little more work (rippling, eddies around the shore and rocks, reflections of the sky, etc) generally pain-in-the-a$$ work;
 Simba's jaw is a little overdeveloped;
 His/her? forepaw comes out a little high from the water for a natural gait.
the grass hits rock pretty suddenly. Maybe some of the grass could be changed to dirt or to moss, so that it blends a little better with the shore.

Other than that, the composition is good and I particularly like the elevated perspective. very jungly!

thnx saffron and genesequence!..
but i think I'm not going to work with it anymore.. .. the whole water-field and that stuff between rocks and grass were made in a big hurry before deadline.. and because I didn't sleep before that for 40h I was bit a pissed off with it.. ..

and btw. saffron, your&soda's pic came to the 2nd place.. I'll give the prizes for soda in school...

I bow before your artistic capability

Well, this kinda makes clear that
technical skill comes AFTER artistical creativity.
I was 4th, i think ?

Usually I hate that kind of "happy" and "sweet" stuff. Just give me some real hardcore violence and gory things...YEAH BABY YEAH!!

Anyway, that's no reason to tell nothing about your skills...
The colors are great. Stones: dito! And I'm very amazed how you made the grass. It's very detailed! Great Job! I don't have any critique...so you can't learn from my reply...sorry...

Lange_Pisang, i have noticed that there are a lot of artists that do like "hardcore and violence" pics..=) but that's everyone's own opinion..
