I am working on a new interface for my hp and this is what I have in mind:

It will be done with simple imagemapping..

The elements are:

* pyramid/sphere/cylinder: 3d gallery

* Picture w/ frame: 2d gallery

* Papers: contact/email

* bus tickets: Links

* Personal file: guess what

* Glass : Science section

I would like to have some comments about it if you will..

and I could need a similar idea for a Music section but nothing comes 2 my mind...

Cya

The idea of a page that appeared to "jump" from the screen has always been one I've wanted to do. This kinda' does that. I'd be cool if it was closer to the, um, floor? and a wider angle to give more of an impression of being "there". Making the objects look bent, or used would look cool too... like if the bus pass's edges were all bend and faded like it'd been in someone's pocket for a while. The surface it's on is weird. It doesn't seem like it's 3d as much as it should... looks more cut out. Dunno what can be done to fix that though, maybe if the background wasn't a flat black, but a dark grey/brown with some sort of non-descript pattern on it that looks like it could be something.

*shrug*

i like the bigger versoin more than the smaller one.

as for music, do you have any sort of musicical instrument, or do you know someone who does? i think a violin would look nice in there, or maybe a brass instrument.

are you going to incorporate rollovers too so people know that they can click on a section? you dont have to have words, i fthe objects simply changed colors that would be enough.

id like to see the site when youre done!

Nifty, tho it's all on a table, yes? If so, it doesn't look right. Maybe a smoother surface, but still with character. Just personal pref.

Music... how about a metallic Sony-like Discman? Maybe some headphones draped near it.

Hum.. I'd suggest a change in light source. Or atleast the direction. I've found in my webpage expeirence that top-down or bottom-up lighting helps to draw the attention to the objects in the scene, rathern than the effect they have with their enviroment.
I understand you probally designed the scene with that lightscource in mind, so feel free to ignore me completly

For music the first thing that comes to my mind is some CDs and/or tape cassettes...

thanks for the constructive comments guys!

Cyber: I tried this bent look but some strange things happened. When I used a camera to achieve this effect the MAX - Raytracer would not render the glass as being transparent but as being white.. very weird

Moose: I like the idea with the violin, it would fit the rest of the stuff there I think.

Syntax, Brain: I guess I will put something non-technical as music section icon, it would fit the rest of the stuff there better..

Maybe I will try it with different backgrounds, but I think a table (wood) would be too classical..

duhroach: well, its generally top down lighting with a backlight on the other side, but they are placed diagonal.. I choose this to achieve more interresting shadows with the objects.. I found it looked too "strict" with centered top down light.

When I finish the interface i will post it again.. I found the idea with rollvers and changing colors on objects very cool so i will try to do that.

Cya
